DeAngelo for Darrelle?

I'm one of, if not the BIGGEST DeAngelo homer on this site... Having said that see exhibits below:

Exhibit A- we already have two solid backs and lack corners

Exhibit B- The Jets lack a Big name solid back, and are trying to trade their star corner

Which leads me to

Exhibit C- This could be a shocker come draft day or perhaps before. The contracts would cancel each other out basically and with Darrelle's injury I'd be willing to say that it's an even trade.

Crazy yes... Possible yes and no... Does it make sense? Absolutely it does, and it takes Revis from a Divisional foe in the process.

Darrelle is wanting upwards of $15Mil a season. Thats a lot more than DWill is costing us right now.

I mean discussing things that have no chance of happening is the backbone of the offseason...

I can't wait for Clausen to light it up this preseason and we trade him for an All Pro DT. QB driven league and all...

Without taking into account that this could never happen contract-wise, etc (as many have pointed out), no. I think mostly because it gets annoying hearing the "Revis wants another contract" talk that seems to happen every year - better for that to happen to the Jets or Bucs.

ah yeah because trading a 6th round for an aging wr who wasn't willing to take a paycut and was close to being cut anyway until a last minute brother-to-brother call is exactly the same as trading around your franchise player yeah.

on top of that, he posted this here, on the Internet. it's fair game, he's liable to be called out and told his idea is dumb just like people can tell them they like the idea.

If you don't like the idea your free to say so but insulting another man because your a couch gm is childish period. Anything is possible anything who cares how likely it is its the offseason and I don't see you giving this forum something better to discuss.

the way the league is going, its ridiculous to pay a corner over $7mil a year and bordering on it to pay more than $5mil/year. and I'm not just talking about the flooded market, either.

we have passed by an era where a true shut down corner will help you much and is worth the big bucks because we've passed by an era where teams use just one or two main receivers.

when the spread started taking over, teams started using 3-4 WR sets and TEs as more if a receiver than blocker, even moving to 2TE sets where they are used as receivers. pretty much the field is getting flooded with receiving options and game plans are drawn up to use them and QBs have more experience utilizing more receivers rather than locking down on just one or two guys.

because of that, you cant throw all your money on one elite CB, you have to spread that money around to several CBs, at least 3 and hope that those three CBs and whatever safeties and linebackers you have in coverage as well as your pass rush will cover up any deficiencies...at least until the price of the stud CB comes down (which it is).

revis might get that money he's wanting, but it's going to be one dumb and behind the times team that gives it to him and that team will be easy to exploit because of the lack of balance on that D, esp. in the secondary.

it would be almost as dumb as investing $60mil into runningbacks while the league moves to a passing league and you draft a QB that can run the ball better than most RBs.

Even if it were to happen, I wouldn't want it.

1.we need deangelo's cap space. Take a look at future years and getting ready to pay cam and possibly hardy. We can't afford to pay revis.

2. We want young playmakers. We are building this team with young stars, and while we occasionally fill in holes temporarily with aged veterans, it's usually for the vet minimum or close to it.

3. Revis is drama and panthers don't play that crap. We know now gettlemen rarely budges on hold outs and revis loves them.

In summary, thanks but no thanks. Every topic lately seems to be different ideas on how to fix every weakness before 2013. We have too many holes to do it all in one year. Be patient, if we don't take a corner this year, it will be next year.

    • Didn't know where to post this but it is panthers relevant since eventually we'll have a couple wr in Coker and tmac that will get paid. Jaxon Smith-njigba just signed a 4 year $168.6 million contract extension that now makes him the highest paid wr in nfl history. For now
    • Would be happy with Lomu or Iheanachor at 19. Fano is intriguing but I don't think he makes it.
    • II see it this way: We have to look at long-term needs and current depth.  We have filled some key spots with players on one-year contracts.  I firmly believe that they intend to pay Bryce some big bucks next year.  That means you cannot hope that your rookies in 2027 can fill the spots vacated by the veterans you could not afford to re-sign.   We need to consider the cap and the fact that the need to start a rookie is not viewed as a positive by coaches and general managers, but they value first contracts--so it is a delicate balance. I think they have to look at the cap by position--"Can we afford a $50m QB and a $100m OL?  That is half the cap, before you pay your WRs and RBs and TEs.  They need to start getting younger on the OL as well.   I am not suggesting that we draft OT in round 1, but we could and I would get it.  RT on a 1-year deal, they may have intel about Ickey (who was not the best LT, to be honest) and 32-year old Moton is on a bad wheel.   Now if you go by Morgan's history, you can almost tell what position we are going to address with the first pick by noting the positions he has not focused on in free agency.  DT, considering the lack of performance by those not named Derrick Brown and the loss of Robinson, is screaming to be addressed with a top player.  Wharton is not an early down DT (DE if you want to get technical) and our LBs need to be clean--they were not in 2025.  Look for a DT early. I also think we will address ILB (pass covering Will) on day 2.  The other day 2 pick will be an OT, in my view. Do not rule out CB.  We are thin there too, and Jackson is in his final year.  I am not sure that we love Smith-Wade.  Some crackhead on here talked about moving him to S----stay tuned.   Hopefully, a team wanting Ty Simpson will move up and offer us a pick or two to move back. DT WILB OT OC QB  (you heard it here 337th--but this pick could come sooner than you think.
