NFL scout says DT Shariff Floyd is a media creation

Two separate NFL scouts say Florida DT Sharrif Floyd is overrated, with one going so far as to call Floyd a media creation.

It's worth noting Floyd had only 4.5 sacks in three college seasons. He's been touted hard by Greg Cosell, Mike Mayock, and Daniel Jeremiah, among others. "Those idiots on TV made Floyd," said one scout. "He's not that good. He's not better than Ziggy Hood." Asked if the Warren Sapp comparisons are valid, another scout replied "No. There's none of that. (Sapp) was just was more gifted than Floyd. Floyd is a good effort player. He's got shorter arms than (Sheldon) Richardson, and I think it shows. He gets kind of Velcroed on blockers."

Per Rotoworld.com

I actually agree this, Floyd just wasn't impressive the times I did watch Gator games, he never stood out.

Agreed. I think he is more of a "potential pick" meaning if you take him you're hoping and believe he will turn into the player that he could become if he puts it all together and wants to be the best.

I watched him quite a bit and never really saw why he was considered to be top 5. At one point prior to the combine and all the hype he was a 2nd round guy.

I think there is a chance he falls to 14 which would make things interesting. We would likely be very tempted to pull the trigger and I think we would have many trade suitors.

This article could be about a lot of other over hyped prospects in this years draft as well, to be fair.

Few of them skyrocketed as far as Floyd did based on nearly nothing but hype and combine results. Patterson is the only comparable guy I can think of. They both started rising after the season was over when actual game evidence was done and speculation and postulation reign supreme. They're both still 2nd round prospects in my opinion.

If you watch the games and judge them by their performance in games, they're 2nd round guys.

I'm honestly not a big Floyd homer or anything, but this close to the draft info from scouts is somewhat akin to a press release from the old Iraqi information minister.

If you're surfing the net for draft news between now and Sunday, it's probably wise to keep a salt shaker handy.

He converted all 13 of his field goal tries with a 100% conversion rate that led all FBS kickers with at least 12 attempts. Fitzgerald was also perfect on his 14 extra points. He will compete with Matthew Wright for the Panthers’ kicking job in training camp. Harrison-Hunte went undrafted despite a strong showing at the Combine. He’s an older prospect who will turn 25 by the start of his rookie year, but he had just one season of sustained production at SMU after five years at Miami. Still, he earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2024 with 8.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks and will push for a roster spot in Carolina as an athletic interior disruptor.   more at the link https://www.profootballrumors.com/2025/05/panthers-sign-19-undrafted-free-agents
