Kugbila Game Footage: Is he worth the 4th round pick?

This is overplayed... guy moved here when he was 12. Its not that he's special... its that he didn't know. Could you get a qualifying SAT score with 4-5 years of american schooling? Doubt it. The fact that he was recruited by those schools should tell you enough. Dude can play. Give him a year or two and we'll all be happy to have him.

True

I think drafting him in the 4th round was a mistake. I voiced my opinion after it happened stating,

Unprecedented Move: Panthers take an UDFA in the 4th

"Can anyone explain to me why the Panthers would draft a player that doesn't grade above the 7th round in the 4th.

Was there truly a fear that this kid, Edmund Kugbila, wouldn't be available in the 5th, or even 6th round?"

Doesn't grade above the 7th according to who? And how would you know for sure what other teams were thinking in regards to how highly he was ranked?

I think early on he's gonna get smoked by pass rushers with more than one move. He seems to have good enough feet to eventually overcome that though.

feeling the same way. no one is going to overpower him and i don't see someone intimidated by anyone or even doing much in the way of false starts. he seems like he's quick enough to get where he needs to be to pick up rushers and he's really aware of what's going on. i saw potential to be a complete pass protecting and run blocking guard.

the only real issue i see is what you said...buying fakes early on from quick pass rushers and occassionally getting called for holding making up for getting beat, but i also see a guy who picks up things quickly. when i watched games from 2011 and then compared them to 2012 i was really impressed at the amount of growth.

i think he'll be solid. maybe not all pro or anything, but that isn't really important. he'll keep cam upright on the right side and open up holes for the rushers. that's about all you need.

Every year there are players that grade higher within the nfl scouts then in the media. Something tells me Kugbila falls under that category.

Carl Nicks was a 5th RD pick in 2008.

Kugbila for some reason reminds me of Nicks. (maybe I am just telling myself that)

Hopefully KugZilla turns out to be better then Nicks..

If he's 80-85% as good as nicks, I'm doing backflips. If he's better than nicks, I think we all need to have A picture of dave gettleman's smiling face tattooed somewhere visible.

there are literally hundreds and hundreds of public analysts and scouts and not a single one gave him a 4th round grade... or even a 5th or 6th round grade. I've yet to see anyone grade him as anything but a 7th round/UDFA. These guys aren't right 100% of the time (obviously) but they tend to be right more often than not and it's very telling when there's such a massive consensus.

I've watched his tape and he looks like an UDFA, not impressed at all. I don't trust this Hurney built scouting department in the mid/late rounds either. Maybe he works out, maybe he doesn't, I don't know. The draft is always a gamble but this pick looks like we're taking one of those sucker bets in a casino that no informed gambler ever makes. Odds look much better that it'll end in bust rather than boom.

Everyone wants him to work out because he's a Panther now but be honest with yourself people, if the Browns or Raiders had picked this guy ahead of us in the 4th we all would have laughed at them for being such idiots, taking some small school UDFA talent in the 4th. But it was that Hurney built scouting department and Carolina that took him so now he's gonna be a beast, the next Carl Nicks, ect.
