So...can we carry this money over to next year?

Big props to Gettlemen for getting us in this shape. I believe more good things will happen here.

Why yes ma'am, that money can be carried over until next year.

And yes ma'am, good things are a cookin' round here.

Since G knows that the trenches are the key and since he took care of the D Line this season. I would expect him to work on the OLine for next season. Getting the eventual replacement for Gross would be key. Kalil, is the only guy we have now locked up for the future and the only one worth being locked up at this point. This has to be addressed.

Oh, and from the "left field" dept, I would not be surprised to see Gman try to get CJ's contract a bit more in order. Not that I think it would happen, but if Alexnder has a big year, I would not be surprised to see a Kraken, Alexander duo with CJ gone away.

The end of the next season will be no different from this one when Gamble and Anderson were sent packing.

After next season, I see us being pretty much "adjusted" from the Hurney mess.

"Hurney adjusted" after just 12 months of Gettleman might be better than the "96 playoff run.

In other news, that $10 million is easily spoken for right now by players already on this team.

Even cutting CJ as a June 1st would only save the team roughly 2.75 Million on the season next year, cutting him any other way would cost the team around 3.25 Million. It's much more likely that the team lets him play the 2014 year and then restructure or cut his more manageable contract.

We had to cut "key" players to do so...

Anderson and Gamble

I'm not saying we shouldn't have i'm glad we did. But they were starters.

Personally I don't think either of the guys you mentioned are key players, but my point is all everyone worried about for the past year was our cap troubles and this was resolved in less than two months. Now we are $10 million under the cap! The cap is just funny money.

Hadn't really thought about LaFell's contract coming up. He's got 118 catches, 1758 receiving yards yards, 8 TDs, 2 Fumbles, and 4 rushes for 95 yards over 3 seasons. That'd be pretty good for a slot, but 600 yards per year just isn't enough production for a #2.

Yeah, you could argue Olsen was our true #2 the last couple years, but still I wonder if it'll be worth it to sign Lafell to a bigger non-rookie scale contract. He's a great possession receiver, and always makes tough catches, but isn't terribly fast. He actually reminds me of Anquan Boldin in that way. Part of me thinks though that with Cam, we could get 600 yards and 3 TDS out of any mid-level FA  WR, ie Ginn or Hixon. Or even a rookie.

This probably deserves a thread of its own. Definitely interesting to think about though, whether LaFell gets any of this cap space.

If 2010 wasnt such a disaster, I would agree with you. Just remember who was throwing to him then, I would us the sample data for Lafell with Cam at QB.  The luxury is that we have this full season to make final judgments on him if he is worthy of an extension.

Once we see who steps up this year we will be able to get a better read on the direction Gettleman will be going in. O-lineman, WR, & TE will prob be major targets in next year's offseason, provided our secondary steps up and plays well as a unit, and no TEs step up.

True/Good points.

Unfortunately, one of the things Chud over looked last year, when he scrapped the two tight ends sets, and Shockey: The Panthers WR's (especially outside of Smith and Lafell) weren't good enough, tall enough or fast enough on a whole, to get open, make big plays and catch TD's.

When you think about how good Olsen was last year. Just imagine how good it would have been with Shockey besides him.

So you're right. The team will definitely evaluate, see which way there going with these guys/the draft/free agency in general.

Right. It upset me when they let him go, but I really didn't like it when they didnt replace him after the success that they had with the 2 TE set.
