Am I the only Panther fan that would sign Hakeem Nicks over Hardy?

Recommended Posts

I'm on the Hakeem Nicks to Carolina bandwagon, but if I had to choose between Hardy/Nicks give me Hardy. Hardy is a beast and will only get better, Nicks can get better also but he has injury issues.

How many WRs change teams and really excel?  Moss did for NE but that only lasted one season.  I love Hicks.  I wanted him when he came out of Carolina.

Keep Kraken and focus the future on 2014 draft.  Word is, it is supposed to be much more healthy than 2013.  I think 1st and 2nd round are WR and OT.  But that is a whole new topic.

Hardy gives so much help to the DL, even allowing CJ to face RTs... I value that quite a bit and don't think Alexander is as easy to replace Hardy as some fans seem to believe.

He also needs to prove he's even decent in stopping the run.

Alexander could potentially replace him...may not. If we have a strong front 7 and Alexander still improves we don't need to overpay Hardy like we did CJ.....we won't be as desperate.

I am not suggesting Nicks over Hardy. I would take a non injury prone #1 WR over him if a very reasonable deal can't be made with Hardy

Hardy did sign up on the huddle, gave us some light entertainment and he is a few people's newest bestest friend, so without reading all the responses, i would say most would prefer Hardy over Nicks, if it came between the two.

I say we try to lock Hardy down, one because he is on the roster already and we have no clue, or control over what the giants do with Nicksy.  We can't not try to work out a deal with Hardy based on a hope Nicks A.) won't stay up here in NY and B.) would want to come back home and play for the Panthers(which I imagine he would).  The Giants could always franchise Nicks after this year anyway, which there is a good chance that happens.  Put all our eggs in the Nicks basket and lose out on both in that scenario.

It is very difficult for me to say who I'd rather prefer on our team if it came down to one or the other, both are fantastic players who, to me, are about equal at their positions.

The #1 job of a DE is to keep containment, not to get sacks, which by the way was Hardy's biggest weakness in '11, and also what he most improved on in '12.

There's no question, i'd keep Hardy over signing Nicks.

Hardy did improve in that part of the game, possibly making him a complete DE.

Can't we make this easy and just say both?  We still have some roster/salary trimming to do next offseason so it's even hard to speculate what is going to be available.

lol, the only one of those that's even close to a character concern is the going 130 mph photo, and even that would be fine if it were done in a legal setting. Assuming it wasn't, speeding being his greatest sin speaks to how little concern there should be for his character....

Motor questions have been resoundingly disproven. Being in an automobile wreck is a character concern?! Ludicrous. Hanging out and talking trash is a character concern?!!? This is the NFL, not a convent.

A motorcycle crash when very likely your contract doesn't allow you to own a motorcycle is a character concern. The following year texting a picture going 130 mph is another character concern.

I like Hardy, but if you don't think he is a loose cannon, you should take your Panthers' glasses off. He created an account and posted here, which is not one of his brighter moves. Fans love it, but I can assure you his advisors have weekly heart attacks.

Effective DE's are much harder to find than Effective WRs.

I believe the top paid positions in the NFL are QB, blindside tackle, and pass rushers.  And there is good reason.  You build your team on those.

We definitely need WR help.  That and LT are going to be huge needs in the next draft but I just don't see taking Nicks over Hardy if that's the decision.  I'm hoping Hardy helps out the team by accepting a fair but not crazy contract.  I feel he might.  After all we took a chance on him when everyone else was passing over him.  But I know it's a business so who knows.

I hear ya, this year will be key for a few players and how they improve.

Based on quite a few comments from Hardy, I'm thinking we won't have such a hard time resigning him to a reasonable deal. Still have to wait to see how that plays out of course.

thought i would stick this in here. an idea of what Hardy may be looking for.

Bengals signed LE Carlos Dunlap to a six-year, $40 million contract.

Although Michael Johnson received Cincinnati's franchise tag, it's no secret Dunlap is their most talented outside pass rusher. Just 24 years old, Dunlap sparked the Bengals' defense when healthy in 2012, registering six sacks and four forced fumbles despite starting just one game. Freakishly athletic, long, and quick at 6-foot-6 and 280 pounds, he has more long-range upside than Johnson. The Bengals are paying Dunlap for projected production rather than hindsight performance. Johnson now figures to leave after his franchise-tag year. Contract-year DT Geno Atkins is next up for an extension.

Theee are only three receivers in this league that I feel are truly elite, even worth mentioning, in a proposal like this.

Nicks isn't one of them.

Do I have to name the three?

The definition of elite is so vague and differs from person to person.

My definition includes more than 3. Just curious, who fits your definition and are your 3
