Sorenson's latest: Kenjon Barner deserves a good look

“God has blessed me with some talent,” he says. “I was very fortunate to do what I did in college and I’m looking forward to try to do the same here.”

 

 

“He made a cut (Friday) that was pretty impressive,” says Panther coach Ron Rivera. “Right now we haven’t put the things in that we feel will be really conducive to him.

“But what we have seen is his ability to catch the ball, his ability to put stress on linebackers when they’re in coverage and I do like his quickness. The biggest questions will be his protections, his ability to step up and block.”

 

 

 

You can't help but like Barn Burner. He came up humble, and seemingly in a position to always have to prove himself. Well, he is doing an admirable job.  Let's hope he can block effectively so that we can see him on the field more.  Moreover, you gotta like Tauren  Poole also. Seems like The Panthers really have some team spirit going on.

 

“With me, there’s no envy or jealousy,” Poole says after practice Saturday while teammates fill the ice tubs behind him. “He’s looking for a job and I’m looking for a job as well, and we’re trying to put great film out there. Competition is great, man, with all the great backs we have. There’s no animosity. I haven’t done much (as a Panther). But if I can help, I got you."

I like the fact that he will help our D prepare for Sproles and the like. Im excited for him, what a gem in the draft we may have on our hands.

I don't think that anyone is questioning that. Perhaps I am getting ahead of myself, but what the main point is is that perhaps Barner is a player that should have gone way higher than the 6th round, making him a prospect for the greatest value in not only our draft, but the draft---certainly in the conversation depending on how it all pans out.

I just don't think he has the size to ever be an every down back, but he is going to be a guy that is a nightmare in the screen game, the slot, and read option sweeps.

the NFL has changed to where an every-down back isn't needed, nor is it expected. A change of pace is so much better now, especially over just running one guy into the ground.

I can see him as a Sproles light he catches, runs, returns punts and hopefully not block.

In 3 years 75% of our roster will be made up of Oregon Ducks. I saw in one of the other threads we are projected to A: be picking in the top 10 again and B: take Mr Black Mamba himself.

Barner isn't a guy you'd build an offense around, but he is a guy who makes a decent offense deadly every time he hits the field.
