Carolina Panthers ‏@Panthers

Gettleman on Cam: "He's had the best first two seasons of any QB...the elephant in the room is the win-loss record...now it's time win."

Jonathan Jones ‏@jjones9

RT @josephperson: Asked Dave Gettleman whether Cam is QB to build future on. After a long pause, he said "Yes, but now it's time to win."

Joe Person ‏@josephperson

But said the elephant in the room is Cam W-L record. 13-19.

People are gonna overreact to this. Yes he needs to start winning obviously but lets remember he inherited one of the worst teams in NFL history. I still don't think he can realistically be expected to win more than 8 games with the team this year. O-Line has all kinds of concerns and our receiving core is average at best

Interesting that he said yes after a long pause. Probably meaningless, but I hope we take a giant leap forward this year in terms if wins, so I don't have to spend an offseason listening to a bunch of "rabble rabble derp is Gettleman gonna draft his own franchise QB derp rabble". I really, really don't want to listen to that poo for an entire offseason.

Winning is a team stat....not a QB stat.

Gettlemen loses points on this one with me. You gonna talk about wins and losses as the front office....you don't just put your QB out there in the talk. Not one who has had the team on back making is competitive

    • Also, just for clarity, is this thread meant for general discussion of Bryce Young, or discussion of General Bryce Young?
    • The word I feel most comfortable using as a descriptor is "inconsistent". Haven't really seen anyone disagree with that. Consistency being one of the things I value most in a player, that makes me lean toward moving on. But he does still have both time and opportunity to prove otherwise. Mind you, having a streaky quarterback isn't exactly a new thing in Charlotte (you could argue it's been the norm). Delhomme was notorious for starting slow but finishing strong. He could sadly also find hos way into ruts that were difficult to crawl out of. Newton, on the other hand, was often known to start hot but fade late (the vast majority of the 2015 season followed that pattern) though it could be argued that was a team pattern as much as it was Cam's.  There are definitely some fans for whom this is always going to be a bridge too far. (or too short) Realistically, it's not impossible that he could still have a good career even with those issues. It's a damn sight more difficult, though. And arguably, less likely.
    • Oh, I did, and they weren't based in emotions either. Granted, characterizing them that way gives you an easy out to avoid responding to them. Similar tactic to dismissing the other guy's points with "nah, you didn't really watch the games" which saves you having to debate what he said. Strikes me as a kinda lazy way to go, but hey both elements are still back there if you feel up to trying later.
