Miami sucks. Art deco crap and pastels everywhere. Its nice if you don't know how to actually appreciate genuine charm. Its a tourist trap.

 

I can name 10 other places in Florida I would rather visit.

Don't hate Zod. If you mention Tampa, I'm kicking your virtual ass. Miami >>>>>> Tampa!

 

On a serious note, Miami is fantastic but it isn't for everybody. Winter Park, Fort Myers, Key West, Orlando, Coconut Creek, Aventura, Wellington, Boca Raton, Margate and Coral Gables are other destinations where tourists will be happy with. Hell, even downtown Delray is gorgeous. 

 

Tampa has gone down hill quickly. St Pete is much nicer now. But I enjoy the nature stuff more than anything in Florida. Florida great for people who like just walking a boardwalk or go fishing and snorkeling. Honestly I don't care about night life, crowded beaches, or clubs. Give me an all day snorkeling trip with dinner at a local fresh seafood dive any day.

Miami Beach is fun for about 3 days.  Miami proper is an absolute hole.  Eff it.

sweet, sounds like you had a good time. i've never been to a hostel in the US before so i'm interested in hearing your impressions.

 

i lived in melbourne briefly when i was a kid and have good memories of it, but except for a quick overnight stay in miami en route to panama (the country) i haven't been back to do any kind of exploring. i'm hoping to take a couple days off of work this december and roadtrip down to fort myers/sannibel island area, i'm told it's pretty awesome.
