Is The Season Opener A "Must Win" For You?

Obviously, we all WANT to win it, but do you feel we NEED/HAVE to win it?

I do.

Considering our lack of success in season openers going all the way back through the Fox era, and now 3 years into Rivera's tenure, I feel we NEED to win the opener.  Otherwise, I feel that same letdown effect will set in and it's almost as though the players feel they're digging themselves out of a hole from the jump.

I'm almost of the mind to say this is such a pivotal season opener, considering everything, that if we don't win it, the season will likely be another sub-.500 year.  We need to get off on the right foot this season, and losing the season opener just brings players and fans alike back to the "here we go again" mindset that has plagued our team since 2009.

What do you think?

I think Seattle is good enough to represent the NFC in the super bowl this year.. if we beat them, I think we will have a great season.  I don't think the sky is falling if we lose to a great Seattle team.. I still think we'd have a shot at 10 wins.

Great points, but I think our team's lack of resiliency following season opening losses is irrespective of who they lost to.  That's what concerns me.

I might just go blow my brains out.

No the first game of the season is not a "must win".

It would be a great win. It is always important to win at home. It is nice to start the season off right.

But if we start 0-1 we aren't going to pack it in and start evaluating our younger guys.

I think some of you guys don't quite get what "must wins" are. They are the games that if you lose your season or postseason seeding is literally on the line.

That won't be game one. I hope we win it though. It would be a great win.

    • Why would we not be contenders? As long as Bryce plays like he did when he came back, we absolutely can be contenders...that is...   if the defense plays better... which is why adding someone like Ramsey when we have a QB on a rookie deal and can afford it makes sense IMO. No one thought of the Commanders being contenders last year or the Texans the year before and so on and so forth. Top-end QB play, especially for a guy on a rookie deal, changes everything in terms of timelines. Regardless of what this board thinks, I hope the front office is willing to he aggressive in thks window we currently have with a rookie QB deal
    • Would absolutely love to have him. I dont think he would require more than a 5th rounder. The biggest thing with his contract is the amount of guaranteed money. As long as they can work out and scenario where the Panthers aren't on the hook for a lot of that, I think it's a no-brainer. The Panthers can come up with $20M at the drop of a hat with restructuring Moton's contract, so there definitely isn't an issue from a money perspective. Jaycee paired with Ramsey along with Mike Jack would give us one of the best CB groups in the league. The one caveat I see is that safety still remains our biggest current weakness. We need a starting caliber S more than CB, simply put. But adding someone like Ramsey would be amazing as long as the compensation made sense. Ramsey could also play for FS snaps also. I also dont understand this nonsense about being seasons away. We have a QB on a rookie deal who was playing at an elite level to end last season. Within reason, now is absolutely the time to make moves like trading for Ramsey.
    • He'd be a huge upgrade for this year, but we're still not going to be contenders with him and I'd rather keep the cap space to roll into next season to spend on a younger player who can be an impact starter for us for the next 3-5 years while we're hoping to contend.
