Panthers sign Wharton

Did not mean to be a dick to you, just pointing out it was not performance that got him released.

And, the original contract he had was another Hurney mistake. Cutting him was about all we could do at the time. He was sig overpaid.

Lastly....you having an issue with me being sarcastic is pretty laughable. You are the poster child for snarky remarks. Actually, that is why I find your posts amusing and entertaining....I have an appreciation for it.

I never said he sucked or was cut only on performance. You jumped the gun and made baseless assumptions.

I'm not getting to engage in that. You've already been warned by Kurb in the past, so I'll leave it at that.

Hm, Steelers cut D'Anthony Batiste.  He's not great (hell, he may not be good), but he's one of the few other O-lineman on the market with some experience:

Batiste, 31, has appeared in 37 games with 14 starts during an NFL career that has taken him from Dallas to Carolina to Atlanta to Washington to Denver and to Arizona.  Last year, Batiste appeared in 12 games for the Cardinals, starting 10.

Gettleman lost. First offer was for vet minimum, Wharton turned it down.

First off, no one thought that Wharton would sign for the vet minimum, I guarantee you that not even the Panthers thought that he would sign for the vet minimum. The contract offer was simply there to see if Wharton had any interest in playing for us and what kind of contract he was looking for.

Also, Wharton wanted a multi-year deal and ended up settling for a one year deal.

It's clear that Gettleman won this contract battle because not only did he get the guy he wanted but he got him on his terms for the most part.

More like a draw or a win-win...Gettleman got him for one year, but Wharton got more than the vet min in order to play for the team he wanted all along...

this. win-win.

tho gettleman said that he tried to get several players to agree to multi year deals but they all refused those and wanted one year deals because they were under the impression that the market would be better next year....which it won't because it will be more flooded than this year.

    • Thielen was a "dawg" like Dan Morgan likes to say. And they replaced him with puppies.  The analytics are probably saying this is more targets for younger receivers they are hoping to develop, specifically the first round pick from 2025. The eye test is going to show a very inexperienced group of WRs that are going to have some serious growing pains, for a 3rd year QB who has not yet proven to be the guy going forward.  It's crazy how in the literal first game of his NFL career, Cam Newton showed everyone he was a star QB and there was never any doubt about that. It almost didn't even matter who was around him, although he definitely had a serious lack of talent at WR for most of his career. Bryce is going into his third season and there is still a ton of doubt, and who is around him is seen as crucial for him to have success. I don't like it.
    • Everyone says AT was old and slow but the one thing he could do consistently was get separation. That takes skill and it's been a huge issue in our WR for years. And while Moore may be a great locker room guy and our WR coach may be a 12 year vet, he's not playing in the game. Vets like AT do what they do because they can see things others don't and exploit it. The DB interview I mentioned before was with Stephon Gilmore after his DPOY season. He was pulling the younger DBs aside showing them things you wouldn't even think you'd be able to tell from the way the receiver was standing.  Seeing what a DB or LB is biting on in game that can give you that half step advantage is huge and we don't have that experience in our WR group right now and I think it could end up hurting us. None of our receivers have lined up against NFL corners successfully on a regular basis. Having someone that can walk over and give you a tip to get a half yard separation can be a difference maker.
