Hypothetical question for the AZ game...(Game management)

4th quarter.

AZ has all their timeouts. Panthers have 1 timeout left.

We are up 27-24. 2:36 left on the clock. We run into a 4th and 2 situation on their 38.

Does Rivera go for the first down, attempt a long field goal or punt?

What do you want him to do in this situation?

*** To give you an idea of the game flow.

Lets say we have 6 sacks.

Palmer is 28-44 for 316  yards and  passing 2 TD's and 1 INT.

Their other TD was set up by a long punt return that allowed Mendenhall a 3 yard TD run.

* As for us we are 10-16 on converting 3rd downs but 4-4 on 3rd and 3 or less and Gano has already connected on a 49 yard FG with ease..

Man, I hope RR has really turned the corner cos he said they went into the Giants game knowing they had to score TD (duh!). Cam once said that the way to win is to dominate, ie, keep going at the opponents throat until the game is over. The last thing this team needs is another TD under two minutes to lose the game!

It really just depends on how well we were doing on offense. Considering the hypothetical score of 27-24 and our 3rd down efficiency, it would probably mean we were moving the ball rather well (Arizona, too)....which means I would take my chances and go for it.

But I'll go a step further....If points were hard to come by and both scores were in the teens (still up by 3), I would probably test that leg of Gano's.

And then there's that gritty 3rd situation that we all love....where both teams are kinda moving the ball and then kinda not. The scores are still pretty low for both teams and overall, it's been a really sloppy game. However, the team with the ball last (almost always not us) takes it down the field in one full swoop and goes up by 4 points. Yeah....if it's a situation like that, I would probably go for it. Seen it go the other way so many times.

Well the Cards are sporting the 3rd ranked rush D in the league, we aren't that great converting 3rd and shorts over 1 yard it seems(didn't look it up). If we are that deep in their territory I attempt the coffin corner punt. If as you say the D is playing well, let them build some confidence and go out there and get the win. It would be a huge boost for them going forward.

    • Would not be upset to lose again if the entirety of the next matchup is spent taking runs at their players.
    • After watching that game, I'd just call up a bunch of ahl players and players off the street and tell them to hit Florida as hard and dirty as humanly possible.
    • Who cares if they overturn it. Make them watch that replay for 2 minutes and explain how they missed that blatant penalty. And make the audience watch that replay so they see what type of player one of the faces of the league is. Make the NHL defend it by bringing attention to it. fug Marchand, fug Maurice and fug Gary Bettman!
