Panthers sign WR Marvin McNutt

Gettleman is trying to find his Victor Cruz instead of going to get guys that can actually fuging play. Gettleman isn't the upgrade people think

Yeah, I'm not sure why we don't just sign one of the dozen or so young All Pro receivers that are just sitting at home right now waiting for a chance to play for league minimum.

Or why don't we just trade our 5th round pick for Calvin Johnson or something? Who cares about draft picks anyway?

I swear, it's like they're not even trying

Sarcasm doesn't quite work in this situation, in my opinion, with our WR corps being so great and all.

Here's a quick exercise to try.

Go take a look at the league's transaction page (or Aaron Wilson's Twitter, either one will do) and check out the quality of players that are being signed by all the other teams in the NFL at this point in the season.

Bring me back the names of the future Hall of Famers that other teams are picking up while we just sit here. Show me who I should be disappointed that we're missing out on.

If trades are more your thing, give me a realistic trade scenario that benefits our team, would be agreeable with another team, and doesn't cost us a future high draft pick.

The perspective I get from people in here is that every team is making blockbuster moves to get to the Super Bowl except us.

Show me some evidence of that and we can talk.

This is more a carryover from this offseason, where everyone noted that we were thin at CB, OL and WR and that Gettlemagic seemed to refuse to do anything relating to bringing in real quality players there.  I'll give him props for safety, but he didn't make the moves I think many of us thought would help in terms of trades or FAs.  I know we've got our limits due to The Ghost Of Hurney Past, but still.

As to a move, why not Gordon for a 3rd?  Gordon is better than any receiver we'd get in the third round and probably even better than a first rounder we could pick up, and with our holes, I think getting quality starters is going to be important.

The guy was given a 3rd round grade by Pro Football weekly (not that I put much stock in their draft analysis), so at least someone thought he had some talent.

As to the LB from Philly, he must have been cut before we signed him. If you sign somebody off another team's practice squad, they have to go to your 53 man roster for a minimum of something like 3 weeks. I assume that rule hasn't been changed.

    • One thing I didn’t consider is how thin this draft is at quarterback. That’s going to drive up the market for backups and borderline starters like Willis, Jones, and Jameis Winston. Because of that, we’ll most likely be priced out of the market for this tier of backup.
    • We've already beat the #1 seed twice, why not one more? (Packers and Rams were both #1 seed at the time we played)
    • My determination has come down to this. Based on recent QB history, has Bryce's improvement warranted 50m per season? Lamar is the only original team QB to play on his 5th year. The others took major deals at the end of the 3rd, before or just after the option was signed. Chances are, we're getting asked for the same.  I haven't rooted for Bryce to fail. I've rooted for him to succeed so big that them signing that extension would give me no worries about our future at QB at all. We haven't seen that level of play consistently that this year. We haven't seen it in the past 6 games.  We're about to be at a threshold with Bryce and I worry about what this front office will do. We have a history of bad decision making and Morgan has been part of that group making those decisions. I don't want Carolina in the same boat Arizona and Miami are right now. It has nothing to with being right. It has to do with wanting to win for more than a single season. We've never had back to back winning seasons. Faith in their abilities is not warranted at this point.
