Where did our run game go?

Mac and Frank Garcia were arguing about the run game yesterday on 610. Garcia argues that despite 2.7 ypc the run game was just what we needed...took time off the clock etc.

Mac argues that 2.7 sucks no matter how you slice it.

I noticed one play...2nd and 2 in the third with like 11:00 is to go. We line up in an obvious run formation with Lafell basically at tight end and Hixon lined up left. Hixon. Everyone in the stadium knew that it was a power run play and there was no chance we were throwing to our 4th string WR who was sort of just standing there anyway. Williams tries to run bewteen tackles and gets stuffed for loss.

I guess I would like to see some creativity on a 2nd and 2.

Williams got some good yards on pitches though.

Tampa has a good run defense at times so i am wondering how we will approach Thursday.

Deangelo got beat up in that game for sure.  I say we use Barner more and get Stewart some reps against the Bucs.  What concerns me, though, is the Bucs' run offense.  We ALWAYS seem to struggle against them, and that little guy they have back there now is no slouch.

The Rams were selling out to stop the run and our offensive line was getting pushed around. But we got much better as the game wore on and wore them down. Sometimes that's all you need.

This.

They were pretty much selling out on everything.  There were very few times the entire game they sent less than 5.  Lots of times 6, and even 7-8 a few times.   Their game plan was to entirely take away the run and read option and dare Cam to make quick decisions(ie what the Cardinals did).   Cam passed the test and actually got better as the game went along.

In situations when just 4 were rushed.  Probably about 5 by my count,  Cam either ran or threw a completion.  He actually looked so much more confident in the pocket as the year has progressed.

2 ways to look at a run game...

Collective run....

Run game that aids your QB and pass...not good enough.

Williams had zero yards in the first half....if the D wasn't playing lights out and putting/aiding in our points we likely would have gotten ourselves in BIG trouble. It is important bc those defensive plays won't be there every week

Well, nevermind about Doug Martin.  MRI on his shoulder.  Unlikely to play Thursday.  Shame, because I wanted to see what our run D could do against him.

    • Theilen came back and Bryce had him. Which he was lost for Andy after the first game, or am I wrong on that?    And people are so overrating most of those Bryce games. There were a couple of good ones and a very good one. Of his basically two complete very good games. That Atlanta game in that stretch and the Dallas game this year being the complete ones. Maybe I missed one but the 2023 Green Bay game was really a very good 4th quarter and a average 1st half. Maybe I missed another but that NYG Europe game was nothing to brag about yet people did. Just sayin.  I mean you can name his really nice games on one hand. Out of how many now? 33? 34? Something like that.
    • So, the goal that should not have been a goal.... https://www.nhl.com/news/carolina-hurricanes-colorado-avalanche-coach-challenge-x1595 Challenge Initiated By: Carolina Type of Challenge: Missed Game Stoppage Event – High-Sticking the Puck Result: Original call confirmed – Goal Colorado Explanation: The Situation Room supported the Referee’s call on the ice that Parker Kelly’s stick was not above the normal height of his shoulders when he contacted the puck at 15:31 of the second period (4:29 elapsed time) – 17 seconds prior to his goal. The decision was made in accordance with Rule 80.1. Penalty: 2:00 minor penalty: Delay of Game – Unsuccessful Challenge ------------------------------------------------------------ How the challenge was interpreted as a high stick challenge is beyond me. What I cannot find is what/how RBA challenged the goal and how it was reviewed as a high stick goal when Stevie Wonder could see the hand extending off Kelly's stick, essentially grabbing at the puck and it went by Freddie.
    • And the QB's below him are; Bo Nix, CJ Stroud, Spencer Rattler, Michael Penix Jr., Cam Ward, Carson Wentz, Dillon Gabriel, Geno Smith and Tua Tagovaila
