We no longer have that one player....

On defense who is just so buttfuckingly awful that you just know he's going to cost us some touchdowns.

Gone are the days of Fua giving up 30 yard runs while getting pushed back into the gatorade table, or simply flailing while collapsing drunkenly to the ground like Cary Collins in a Charlotte bar circa 1998.

No more Nakamura with his 2 inch vertical letting a wounded fuging duck with 30 minutes of hang time somehow fly over his hands and into the receivers grasp.

No more Norman and his preference of playing behind the safety zone at the snap and his desire to dive in on already covered slot receivers on goal line game losing possessions.

We have done some amazing things with this defense. We have TWO UDFA rookies getting major playing time in our defensive secondary in White and Lester, TWO starting rookie tackles, and now a starting rookie 5th round OLB. That's almost 50% of our defensive starters that are Rookies.

But here's the key, along with those rookies we have solid vets that rotate in. Dwan, back from injury can spell KK and they don't lose a step - in fact he's still probably better than KK at this point in their respective careers. Mikell and Drayton Florence can step in at safety and corner respectively and play above solidly. Blackburn, once back from injury, provides stability outside at the LB position.

And on top of all that we have 4 super stars on defense. Hardy, Johnson, Keek and TD are absolutely top 5-10 in their respective positions in all of the NFL.

Sure we have some positions that are weaker than others, corner probably being the weakest, but they are servicable at worst and league average in actuality.

No more Fuas or Nakamuras. No more Everette Browns, Dan Connors, McClains, Richard Marshalls, or Sherrod Martins.

This Defense is legit and brings the pain. Kiss our ass haters, and eat the turf bitches.

i can't believe how well florence, mitchell, and mikell have come in and played for us. secondary is barely a concern now. this i think is the unsung heroism of dave gettleman.

Yeah, Mitchell has been the best offseason FA signing that we've had in some time. He has absolutely killed it since being moved to FS. He's having a pro-bowl season after being decidedly underwhelming after being drafted with tons of hype by the Raiders 3 seasons back.

I had an Everette Brown sighting last night. He was actually getting pressure on Brees for a second

Brown is actually doing pretty well for the Cowgirls, he had a game breaking sack+force fumble a couple weeks ago.  Not saying he's shed his label of complete bust, but he's still out there and seems to be contributing as a 3rd down pass rusher.

The front 7 has done a lot to help make up for deficiencies in the Secondary.

Offensively we still have some guys like that, and we need this team to continue to develop and get better to give us a dominant run down the stretch.

That's okay to admit, you don't want to peak too soon anyways. We've got a lot of growing to do still-and that;s a good thing.

The fact that the teachable moments have come mostly in wins is a sign of a good team that can be even better.

Yeah, we absolutely do on offense. We're starting a coverted TE turned 3rd team defensive tackle as our right guard.

I was speaking specifically about defense.

    • I see the issues with Tyreek, which is why I put an asterisk on him and all the way on the bottom. I don't even see him playing at all this entire year since he hasn't even been seen working out at all. But I do not think he's as hard to play with as Stefon Diggs is IMO and Tyreek is more of a game changer. But either way, it's pie in the sky.  Always loved Keenan and he is from the Carolinas so that's really the only thing that may interest him playing here if no one is giving him any calls to play.
    • It's not that I'm not rooting for him to do well, but I'd be lying if I said him having a good season wouldn't scare me after what we've seen out of him so far. I'd be afraid of it just being one of those situations you see all the time, a player is in a make it or break it season, they somehow raise their level of play to new levels, and then proceed to immediately drop back off a cliff the next season (although this does usually happen in contract years, not a player trying to not get cut). Now, if you tell me that no matter how well he plays, we're then going to flip him for a draft pick in the offseason, then yea, I'd want him to go off for a monster season so we can get a better return.
    • Helllllllllllllll no on Tyreek, not even on a vet minimum and if he was playing at his peak abilities. We have way too young of a WR room to bring that head case into the locker room, there is just no way I want him around any of our WRs.  The things that make him great aren't things that can be taught, they're his natural born athletic gifts, so there isn't anything useful he can teach our guys and would just be a bad influence on them. Same goes for Stefon Diggs. Allen I'd love, he'd be a great mentor for T-Mac and Coker, but I doubt he plays anywhere other than with the Chargers or a legit true SB contender this year (and only small odds on the latter there, likely Chargers or nothing I'd guess).
