Controversial end was the best possible outcome

Going into the Monday night game of course the win was at the top of my wishlist. There were a few worries that came with that however:

  • This team is historically the most worrisome when they're the favorites and play their best when they're the underdogs. With the "controversy" witch hunt in full effect, the team still has a chip on their shoulder to motivate them. This goes double for Cam who's thrived on pressure since college.
  • An outright win would have either put the league on full notice (even more than they are now) or been dismissed as the Patriots choking like the Giants game was.

The Panthers are now respected with just enough doubters to keep the fire burning. Cam is now an elite QB but still has something to prove unlike media darlings Luck, RG3, or Wilson. We couldn't have asked for a better outcome.

Agree - Cam's getting a lot of media attention today (as he should) but most of the commentary is not about how well the team played. It's about the Patriots and the refs.

I just don't like the fact that Cam's game winning drive isn't being talked about by the national media. But I don't care much about that. Just hate it for Cam and the teams' sake. Cam and the offense played their asses off last night.

Here you go....there are litterally pages and pages of articles directly related to Cam leading the Panthers to victory last night. USA Today, Washington Post, NFL.com, Boston Globe, Yahoo, etc.....

And every national sports radio show I have listen to today (and I have listened all day) has mentioned how impressive Cam and the Panthers were last night.

You hear what you want to hear I suppose.

Hell no....do you know what kind of morons hang out on NFL team message boards? I've never been on a Philly board and never intend to. I would wind up hating the team. That's why I choose to just stay here. : )

We're gonna turn you into a Panthers fan yet... you'll be slobbing Zod's knob in no time...  wait...

ugh. more underdogs crap.

the panthers are winning. in a week no one (aside from patriot fans) will be talking about that last play and everyone will be talking about cam, keek, and the panthers.

this underdog/flying under the radar thing is going to end real soon, for those still believing they are still.

winning put you on the radar and take that underdog tag off you.

i don't want to be under the radar. i don't want them underdogs.

i want this team to march up that hill and conquer it and claim it as theirs and dare anyone to take it from them.

it's time to be bold. word is getting out about this team and they are definitely being put on a pedestal this season as among the elite. they are recognized as a real threat and a dangerous team. they just took out the reigning NFC champs in their own home and took out the brady/belichick patriots after a bye week on monday night football.

like it or not...the league has been put on notice just how good a team the panthers are. there's no turning back now unless we start losing.

so what do you want?

winning and being noticed?

or losing and going back under the radar?

it's one or the other. there is no middle ground.

Yeah, if you turn on ESPN or NFL Network you will hear this "controversy" drivel, but plenty of respectable outlets know the real story.

The real story,short,plain and simple:

"Could Gronkowski, but for the contact from Kuechly, have gotten around Kuechly and through Lestar to catch the ball?

The decision ultimately made last night was no."  End of story.

Nope. Listened to Mike and Mike on my way to work and Cowherd on my lunch break plus post game and all I heard about was the call. They probably led with the talk about the call, then talked about Cam after I couldn't listen.

    • I just dont get the worry over losing a practice squad player that just went undrafted. Everyone just made their selections. The chances of a team wanting to sign him to an active roster after not selecting him is very low.  If that interested they would have taken him late to evaluate in person. As far as I can tell two qbs were signed off another teams practice squad last season and they were both going in to their 5th season.
    • I enjoyed reading this thread and the usual banter that follows. The only silver lining I can identify right now is we do actually have a couple of young QB's behind him and we do have a nice roster on both sides of the ball built around the most important position. So if the team overall shows some promise but we still falter largely due to a lack of consistent passing output (again) hopefully the decision makers can be free to make the best decision for the team going forward after the conclusion of this upcoming season.
    • I don't really follow the team anymore due to a variety of reasons and consequently have largely stopped posting but I agree that this is a lovely website and community. This forum probably kept me around for years longer than I would've stuck otherwise because of how difficult it was to stop checking multiple times a day. Especially appreciate how lax the moderation tends to be compared to a lot of places, the crew here does a great job. Out of curiousity I decided to try making a new account (solely for testing purposes) to see what exactly is wrong with the sign up process. The issue seems to be that it never sends you an account verification email, thus making it impossible to complete registration. This is likely something to do with the email server upstream, hope it gets fixed. Also, lol
