Hypothetical: Mike Wallace Catches the Bomb at the End

Recommended Posts

Wish I had a gif of his critical drop on the Dolphins Hail Mary.

Does he land short of the end zone and is he touched down by Mike Mitchell a yard or two short of the goal line? I honestly think this would have been the case and doubt the Dolphins offense could have ran the 60+ yards up the field to get the next play off in under 10 seconds.

Or,

Would Wallace have been able to reach his arms or extend to cross the plane?

In the replays I've seen I keep thinking he'd be a yard short and Mitchell would have landed on him to down him near the line.

I don't think he scores.

But the bigger question is, on a play where the only chance the Dolphins have is to score a TD, how does Mike Wallace get behind our defense?

Why were there not three defenders with their backs to the endzone?  Mind boggling defensive breakdown with shades of Nakamura and ATL.

Agreed.

Can't believe that they didn't have at least one guy way back and had told him, "don't let Wallace get deep"

I'm glad it worked out but that would have been crushing.

    • Assuming Mann is back I’d go ahead and move Green and the first rounder from PHX for a starting center. I prefer Okogie to Green anyway.
    • Been here since the Coliseum days. Hornets were the first pro team I ever rooted for. If they're ever going to get out of the gutter they have to establish a culture. They are trying to do that. I have no idea if it will be successful but it's a start.
    • I don’t think I'd go that far but there is definitely legitimate reason to ask how much he actually values winning and being great as a basketball player. He is very easily distracted with off the court stuff. This has been a public criticism of people like LeBron James with some of the newer generations of "stars". And it is 1000% valid and needed to be said. All I can say is I hope this is the year. If it is it will be apparent fairly early on. But I get the sense if the same themes continue as the upcoming season progresses the FO could look to move him before the trade deadline. It would suck for a multitude of reasons and I don't want to see it happen but if it did it would be on LaMelo and LaMelo alone because they've given him the keys and are finally putting pieces around him. If he wants to be a great basketball player and win he will be here and do what is necessary for the team to be successful. If not well....
