What is the reason for the offense ALWAYS starting out slow?

Smith actually was quoted as saying the team was lazy to begin the game and got caught off guard or something like that

I knew something was fishy when Smitty caught that initial first down and didn't do anything.  Just went back to the huddle.

Whatever they were doing pregame, they better not again.

Since MMA is rather popular these days, I will draw an analogy from it.

Even the champ can go in and bang right off...but most worth their salt take the time to "feel out" an opponent, "find their distance"...etc.

IN the football sense and in particular in relation to our team, I like to think we do such (not convinced we do but for the sake of the OP question) want to "feel" the other team out, get an idea of their tempo, not show too much strategy in the opening quarter than may shed light on the rest of the game...and otherwise take it slow, adjust, find weaknesses and strengths..and work around those.

Dolphins game could be argued as just as important of a statement game as 9ers or Pats.

Previous 2 stated they can compete with good teams. Dolphins stated they have the mental toughness to take the fatigue from the last 2 weeks and the short week and still come back to win against a decent team.

That is the point here.  We win a huge emotional game on Monday night and have to travel to Miami to face an inspired team on the road who is fighting for their playoff life on a short week.  Short week games heavily favor the home team and we come back from a 10 point deficit at halftime to beat the Fins and suddenly we aren't impressive and everyone should be worried?

People who are bitching about this week don't have a clue or just want attention.

It was the 1st TD we gave up in the 1st qtr all season, only given up 3 1st half TDs all season (see chart)...

So the opposition gets 45 or less minutes, while we get a full 60 to score...

The team decided to test themselves, spot them a few & do it in 30...
