Red Zone D stat from ESPN blog

Ive felt like we would be best in the redzone since before the season started. with no field to strech its hard to burn our secondary. thats a primary reason my winning formula revolves aroung letting the other team move the ball, but forcing field goals.  puts our defense in the area they are most comfortable defending.. ie, a short field. it also keeps the secondary fresh with less ground to cover every play.

People are going to realize that not only is this the best Panthers defense of all time but could be one of the top ten in the history of the NFL. That sounds crazy but when we win the super bowl because of them it will sink in. Before you scoff take into account all of the rules that have been implemented to give the offense an advantage over the last 10-15 years. Imagine this defense 15 years ago when you could actually be physical and not get penalized. Sent from my HTC One X using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

As long as we don't allow the Mike Wallace-esque TD bombs from outside the red zone.  Drew Brees twice in the next three weeks will test our defense from beyond the red zone.  Once the field shrinks to inside the 20, I am much more confident against that kind of aerial attack.

Meachum, Stills, Moore, these guys are all capable of getting deep.  Must jam at the line, all game.

If we end the season at the 13ppg allowed mark it will be more impressive than the 10 ppg allowed mark the Ravens set in 2000.

That's the truth, no homerism. It will never get the recognition and anyone who mentions it would be laughed at nationally, but it is more impressive. I'm not saying this defense is better, but that mark is more impressive.

The league had changed dramatically since then. The rules have drastically changed the game. I still can't believe we're only allowing 13ppg. Ron Rivera is a defensive mastermind. And to think, 90% of this fan base wanted him gone for 18+ months up until a few weeks ago.

there is a large percentage that still do.

Not only that but the way teams practice is way different. You can only have so many padded practices now. That hurts defensive play more than anything.
