Captain's TD Percentage

For as much crap as he's gotten, this dude probably has more TDs in his career as a defensive back than LaFell does as a receiver, lol... He has to be in the record books for some reason with his INTs for TDs, right?

Upon looking, he is in elite company when you put him up against other guys this far into their careers. Deion only had three INTs for TD through five seasons. By the end of his sixth, that went up to 6.

Captain holds the NFL record for the highest TD per INT percentage of all time. For at least 5 picks. Also tied for most pick return TDs through first 5 seasons since at least 1970.

I think we ask too much of him a lot of the time, but he doesn't suck.

Yeah, I don't think Captain necessarily sucks at coverage.  It's just that at 5'8" or whatever he is, he DOES suck at covering big receivers and we leave him matched up against big receivers too often.  That's not on him.  You can't ask 5'8" to cover 6'3" anymore than you can ask a point guard to defend a power forward on the blocks in basketball.  When you're giving up 6-7", your options are quite limited.  The biggest issue is that Captain is best suited as a nickel, but due to our lack of other options, he's forced to start on the outside.  It takes a really special player to start on the outside at his size.  Like Smitty special.  How many other WRs and CBs are starting on the outside who are their size?  There's a reason for that.  Smitty pulled it off and pulled it off at an elite level for years, but now that he's lost a step he's even struggling on the outside.  Captain ain't a Smitty level player.

Cap is the ideal nickel back, but he is forced to be a 3 down player which I think he does okay for.  Every team has some type of deficiencies and ours, and we knew this before the season started is our secondary and oline.  We have covered them up pretty well for all things considered.

I think he does 'suck' heavily at times. Joe Haden is barely 5'10" but he is capable of shutting down a WR like Calvin Johnson (word on the street is he fugs Josh Gordon up during practice weekly). Captain is a good playmaker back there but he'll have his moments where he lets a WR blow past him without putting a finger on him or lose track of the ball in the air (or the receiver for that matter).

 

Overall, Munnerlyn is average cover corner.

 

I think Munnerlyn is above average.  But I don't think he is great.

 

5-8 is not 5-10 in the least.
