WFNZ stopped caring about quality radio when they let Mark Packer walk, seriously it was the only radio program they had that was worth going our of your way to listen too.

I got tired of the same listeners calling into the shows on WFNZ all day long too.  I think some folks only job was to call in daily especially on Friday when the gambling guys were on.  Seems like some guy from Maiden called in daily with hate filled venom toward the Tarheels and gushy love for the Steelers. Unlistenable.  I do enjoy Smitty.  Yarborough at lunch time and Old Man Celania in the morning.  Not much else though.

I think it's hilarious that some of you guys think wfnz bashes the Tar Heels regularly. Other than the occasional duke/nc state fan caller, it's all flowers and puppies with them.

And add to that how much they talk Tar Heels (more than all other college teams combined) it really becomes nauseating to non-Tar Heel fans.

I don't really listen to the Tarheel bashing mainly because I zone out during college talk. But the callers do bother me. I don't know if they are short on callers or what but they will let the same trolls on every day. Complain about their rehashed material, then let them back on the next day. That stubhub Carl guy is clearly not a Panther fan. Clearly not a PSL owner and probably has never even attended a Panther game.

 

The biggest problem with the afternoon show is they are more worried about stroking their ego than taking an interesting call. Sometimes having someone call up and rip you is a good thing. Don't cut them off, let them get on a roll. Don't feel like you have to defend yourself either. And when a Panther fan calls up and said he thought his team was going to the playoffs all along how about you congratulate him? Instead they rip us and call us homers and defend themselves by saying "nobody would have thought this team would win".

 

Oh and when you come up with some lame poll question like "On a scale of 1 to 10 how worried are you about shrinking testicles this weekend". Don't get mad when the listeners skip your question. That is a failure on the hosts part for not coming up with a compelling question listeners want to answer. Most listeners are nervous, they are on the radio and some of them don't do public speaking for a living. They came in with a plan and when you break their momentum the call is over, they can't deliver.

I am a Tar Heel fan so you probably will take offense to this, but if you want to hear about your team the answer is really simple, call the station.  There are more Tar Heels fans so they get more play.  It's simple economics.  Supply and demand.  More Blue Devil/WolfPack calls more air time for them.  No need to be salty about it though.

yeah - UNC moves the needle. It's really that simple. I work for a media outlet here and that's basically what it comes down to. Look at the decent season Duke had in football this year. The beat the heels for the best win in the history of the school and then got a nationally televised ass beating handed to them. They're going to get another one handed to them in a couple of hours from Manziel in his final game. But it's why they don't talk much about Durham football - because even a blind squirrel can find a nut, they aren't taken seriously, and it simply doesn't move the needle. 

 

If it bleeds; it leads - and it's always, always a bigger story when UNC loses than when they win. The state is probably 3/4 Carolina fans/alumni and it's a successful programming strategy to kick them when they are down and "load the lines."

 

If you don't like it - DONT LISTEN. That's the only defense you have against them. Don't send them emails complaining, don't follow them on twitter, etc. I don't care for Rush and I don't listen to him. Which is rare because i'd  be willing to bet half the people who listen to Rush don't care for him, either.
