How much rest/work does the team put in during this bye week?

Players and coaches are such creatures of habit and some teams seem to respond great to time off while others come out flat or rusty.

The Panthers had such an early bye in the regular season that this bye is just what the doctor ordered.

So how much rest or work does Ron put in this first week? Give them time off till Thursday and start game planning or more than likely keep the routine the same as the regular season?

There are many things to tweak especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Ron said the team is practicing Wednesday through Saturday which is not normal for a bye week in regular season. They will be focusing on things teams have been doing against them and conditioning.

The coaching staff and personnel department will be studying film of all three potential opponents and putting together "packages" on each team. When the opponent is learned they will start breaking down further and formulating a game plan then next week is a normal week.

This is great. I remember a player saying earlier in the year the Bye week is the week you take time off from preparing for your next opponent and you improve and fine tune your team. I'd say that's amplified since we don't know our next opponent yet. That's good. The week to rest is good, but an additional week to make ourselves a better team is even better.

it's a balance on knowing how to keep your team moving forward and motivated while at the same time getting them to dial it down and really truly recover.

i'm with rodeo. i said a few wks before the 08 playoffs i didn't want a bye.

the only thing now is like i mentioned the bye was so early in the season and with Smitty banged up this can only help.

as a coach myself i'm always curious how another coach approaches down time or getting ready for playoffs when they don't know the next team. sports psychology stuff i guess.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
