Mel Kiper Jr's first mock draft 1/15/2014

I think someone else brought that up on a different thread and I commented on it.

Iverson is my favorite basketball player of all time. If Cam is not as smart as Lebron he'll suffer the same trap as Iverson. Just a one man wrecking crew on a team that's satisfied enough to just make the playoffs. Cam should see what direction the organization is going in the draft before signing on the dotted line. Going 4 drafts without upgrading the offense would be insane and unheard of.

By the way, do you remember the KVH high socks? lol

Totally agree.

Haha of course! then after KVH, they had Kyle Korver! White boy swag!

Obviously BPA, but we need a monster at whatever position we draft.  A monster lineman that Cam will be guaranteed to get a positive push from, a CB that can step up and jam large receivers (Boldin), or a big WR with playmaking ability.

Side note, I don't mind the Manziel for number one, my only criteria as an unprofessional is, did the player dominate college in a way that is transferable to the NFL?  I'm not going to argue with the pick.  I do have a gripe with how Bridgewater was seemingly the only higher player who had shade thrown his way.

Players should be judged for what they do on the field, unless they created a huge distraction. So... with what Manziel did last summer getting no mention, how can he reconcile this when all he did was TRASH Cam?

I hate that I even give it attention, but damn... that's why I hate to see our own fans talk bad about Cam, whether justified or not, because everyone else on earth is looking for any opportunity to criticize and many hope that he fails.  If you aren't loved at home, you aren't loved anywhere.

I'm taller than Cooks, this is sad. Why do draft analysts insist on comparing yet to be NFL players to Steve smith on Size alone? Do they not realize that not every small framed wide out will turn out to be like Steve Smith?

Nailed it! I wish Julius Peppers would have turned out to be like Smitty. You can't just build another Steve Smith that's why I'll remain a bit skeptical on Cooks.

Put Cam Newton and Kelvin Benjamin together and you got something. I wouldnt mind targeting Benjamin and moving up a bit to do so. We've already got Tedd Ginn and Smitty why do we need another guy under 6ft?

Give Cam a guy he can throw a jump ball to. We actually don't have that guy on the roster yet.

We won't draft a WR in the first round. Sorry guys.

Don't see why not.

The next guy on the draft board if Lotulelei hadn't been there was Tyler Eifert.

If we were up for a TE in the first, why not a WR?

The Hurney days of alternating RB and LB in the first are over.

Although I think Cooks is a very good player, I really believe Cam needs a big bodied WR/TE to throw to. As we've seen Cam tends to sail his throws high at times and I think it would just make sense for us to take a WR/TE who is a big target.

PS, have no problem with Johnny being #1. I think he'll be an absolute star in this league.

    • And to think we could have traded burns, a pass rusher much worse than Parsons, for almost the same as Parsons... God we blew that chance
    • Would have probably just been better to go back in time and pick Parsons instead of Horn TBH
    • Heres my take on this. I hate to quote Joe Person and Daviance Newston, but there were reports that AT was not getting the same reps as last year. Now you can look at it a couple ways- Panthers know what AT bring and want to grow young WRs or they thought father time had caught AT enough to limit reps(thus faze him slowly out). Fact is AT hated that 2 win season and reports he asked or didn't want to be on the Panthers during the trade deadline last year..... just Panthers didn't care about a 2027 7th in return for BYs safety blanket.   I look at this as the Panthers just scored 23 scores in PS and they know AT wants no part of what could be anouther bad losing 2 or 5 win season. So go with the young ones and flip him back home for the value of a 4th. He's the oldest WR in the league, getting anything above coffee filters is a win.  The next 6 games will show if the Panthers were right or wrong.....
