A little DPOY love from NFL.com

They are boosting Luke up so they can give the defense all the credit when they downplay what Cam does.

I'm not sure Luke is even the best LB on the team yet. Thomas Davis is a monster, too.

Dude. Seriously? I love TD, and I love what he has done over the past 2 seasons. But sorry you need to take your head out of your fourth point of contact if you think hes better than Luke.

??? how about they are boosting keek up because he is legit and the best mike  in the game?

it's got nothing to do with cam.

i would have to go with Bowman, preinjury of course.  their scheme is different and he plays beside Willis, but to me, Bowman edges out over Keek.  Not slighting Keek either, he is definitely top 3.  just my worthless two pennies though.

Luke is our best linebacker hands down.  He calls signals and make adjustments, has to cover the whole field, and play man and zone all day.  Davis is very good as well but his responsibilities are more focused allowing him to do his thing very well.  This is not a takeaway at all from him just a recognition that in a 4-3, the middle linebacker has to be the general and leader.

As for this having anything to do with Cam is utterly preposterous. I guess that kind of idolatry just comes with picking up band wagon fans who are fans of a player instead of  team.  If that is the price to pay to have a legitimate franchise quarterback, so be it.

keep in mind that davis came in to the league substantially more raw than luke and was more of a safety/LB tweener as well.  his coverage skills took time to develop and he was considered something of a liability against the pass until just before he had the ACL tears.

being first team all pro at your position in your second year in the NFL is a massive accomplishment and speaks to what a truly rare talent we have.

The Lavonte David group on the comments section is hilarious. How does a player on a 4-12 team gets mention for DPOY??

bucs fans are still salty about the attention luke got/is getting over david.

there's actually a hilarious thread somewhere on the rival board of the falcons site made by a bucs fan.  the title is something like "isn't it totally clear that david is superior to kuechly by now?" and the guy is just relenteless in his assertion that david blows kuechly away.  i mean david is a monster and definitely in the discussion when it comes to the best linebackers in the league overall but they don't even play the same position.

What makes it even funnier is it's coming from a fan base who barley avoids black outs every week.

I think Kuechly is a great player but man, Thomas Davis deserves so much better than he is getting.  Three ACL tears and he plays the best season of his career.  That acrobatic INT of Drew Brees in Week 17 says...I'm back, and you'd better watch out.  How he didn't make the Pro Bowl is beyond me.  Sorry to talk about Davis in a thread about Kuechly but I feel like Kuechly wouldn't be as good as he is without Davis by his side.

i agree with you, while Keek is the leader that lines everyone up, gets the play call, Davis is the vocal leader of that defense thats gets the players pumped up and he also gets in their faces and tells people the tough things they dont want to hear.  he was certainly shafted with the pro bowl, but i think David was the only non 3-4 olb that made it this year, and most years the olb goes to 3-4 guys.  take away the acl surgeries, he was still amazing.  our defense would have fallen pretty significantly he missed any time.  While I am rooting for Keek to win the DPOY, I would not be surprised if he didnt get it.

    • Now now now, I wouldn't say there is no logic, but there's just not a lot of in-depth thought put into Barnwell's  "analysis." Now to be fair to him (and other national writers), pre-season team rankings are basically clickbait. And...Barnwell, himself, said that "there's a lot of projection here." He basically admits that he doesn't know how the hell things are going to turn out with our receiver group. He also said that "I find myself" more intrigued by Coker than Legette; that does not mean that he said that fans should be, or that Coker will even be better than Legette (regardless of ESPN's per-route-run stat). So, yeah, Barnwell said some things, but even he has to basically admit that he doesn't know how bad or good that our playmakers will be in 2025.  Overall, what Barnwell is basically thinking is that the Panthers have gotten worse at the offensive skill positions, and baked into that is that others have gotten better. That's the argument in July (meaning, please don't give this any more weight than it's due). I would personally be surprised (not shocked) if we end up worse than the Titans, Pats and Giants at least. Once you throw in the Bills, Giants, Jets, Steelers, and even the Chargers, I personally think there are several teams' skill groups that may end up ranked lower than ours by the end of 2025.  @kungfoodudeis one of my dudes, but like others he is over the tipping point. He's had enough. Seeing is believing. I will say this though: Barnwell's piece is less about logic than just good ol' opinion. And to be honest, he might as well be a Huddler throwing out sh¡t in the summer based upon nothing but good feels or bad feels.  Our offense as a whole (just like any other team's) is going to depend upon the play of the O-line and especially the QB. How you can even rank the skill positions without expressly baking those two things in the cake is beyond me. I would dare say that that's not even logical.
    • Football is not the professional sport where timidness and apprehension are justly rewarded.
    • Bryce Young had a super high floor definitely at least won't be a bust safe pick we allegedly had seen in some time.......and went on to have one of the worst rookie seasons of all time.  They are all lotto picks.  And that is especially true for whatever they will be day 1 in the NFL.  I don't think Tmac is a sure thing year 1.  It's not like we watched him do his thing in the SEC.  He was a PAC12 guy.  I'm sure it will take time
