Gettleman switches scouting services

“Their philosophy was the way I was raised,” Gettleman said Monday. “Height, weight, speed are important, but not the end-all, be-all. It truly was about evaluating the guy as a potential prospect and player.”

BLESTO was founded in the 1960s and is an acronym for “Bears, Lions, Eagles and Steelers Talent Organization.” The Bears and Eagles have since left BLESTO, which now is comprised of eight teams: Carolina, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Jacksonville, Washington, Detroit, Minnesota and the New York Giants.

We're the only one that made the playoffs out of that bunch

Yeah, but all those teams save Jacksonville have pretty decent talent. Coaching not so much. The scouting conglomerates aren't everything though, it's just a resource. Teams employ their own scouting team groups and do their own independent analysis. The National and BLESTO are basically just huge databases of scouting analysis that's shared with the group teams.

Gettleman was a scout for years.  I trust that he knows what he's doing in that department.  I wouldn't worry so much about the other teams using this firm.  You can give decision makers the best information in the world, but it doesn't amount to a hill of beans if they don't listen to it.

    • Link to Olympics Men’s Hockey schedule and tv broadcasts. I just changed my Wallyworld free membership from Paramount+ to Peacock so I can watch some of these games. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nhl/news/olympic-mens-hockey-schedule-times-channels-live-streams-2026/df42e9fce26e1178f7056cef
    • I mean, it all depends.  Age, location, etc.   But yeah, present day young keyboard warriors of all races clutch their pearls over anything for clicks/engagement.  Same girl in the video making sure to sell the heck out of Tmac using the word....also tried to pretend he was fat shaming her for merely pointing out a doughnut that she was literally holding in her hand wasn't a salad while claiming she exclusively eats salad only.  I don't know who does and doesn't get pass in the world of non-white folks.  That's not for me to really get into.  But I know different eras have given certain communities the pass.  Fat Joe is a great reference.  Heck, Cypress Hill is another form back in the day.  Lot of latinos used the word during raps peak.
    • Manning looks good on a team that is loaded and has significantly more talent than most of the teams he faces.  The odds are that he will be like the vast majority of college qb's drafted early in the first round, ie a significant disappointment.  Imo, if not for his last name, he wouldn't be talked about very much.
