I Don't understand the franchise and trade Hardy talk

Are we 100% confirmed to receive a 3rd round compensatory pick in 2015 as it has been stated here?

We would still have to receive the draft pick, make the selection, and wait for that player to pan out. Until then, yes, it would be for nothing.

I've seen that it;s a 4th.

Cap room allocated towards Hardy is realized the second he walks.

Yeah, it's all speculation until we actually receive it. Either way, it won't be until more than a year from now.

Whether Hardy stays are goes, we still have to address the OL, and WR. Steve Smith is our only receiver currently under contract.

Why do you think the Raiders need a DE so bad? They have houston who is only 26 and had 6 sacks last season, and Hunter who is serviceable.

Besides, why would the Raiders trade their firsts? They know that, by tagging Hardy, we've put ourselves in a bind financially, and then have all the leverage.

They dont and won't, people are just hoping someone is dumb enough to overpay for him.

Lol we're not getting "two 1st's" for Hardy. We're not getting a "1st and 2nd". We're not getting anything except a compensatory pick. And hes not resigning here. Does Gettleman literally have to spell it out for you guys? In a press conference, he literally said the words "all good teams have to let a big dog walk sometimes" and "its a part of business", then said "we are cap limited for the next 2 years." I hate to break it to u, but in a professional "on the record" manner, thats as close to "c-ya later" as youre gunna get. We cant afford him. Plain and simple. Blame Hurney.

As for kraken himself. Why on earth would a team give up an extremely valuable draft pick (or in everyone here's mind -- TWO high draft picks), for a guy they can sign in 25 days without giving up a thing. Yes i get the "but but but the raiders are stupid!!!!" and yes im sure in madden you could get a 1st for him. But thats not how billion dollar businesses are run. We will most likely get a 3rd round comp pick (maybe 4th) in 2 years for his departure.

Lets just hope our group of no name overachievers can have another great year without Hardy.

I'm glad I don't try and understand any of it...watch and wait that's what I do. I can't see thinking too much about something I have no control over.

I hear you man I understand the basics of the salary cap math, the free agent thing, the trade thing and the draft but I don't care to learn the minutiae of all that stuff. Just put a team on the field and play ball! :)

A 3rd or 4th comp pick is no guarantee, especially in a year where we will be signing a lot of FA's to fill out the roster. If we let Hardy walk for nothing this year we will likely see no compensation received at all, remember that Mitchell, Ginn and Munny are all technically FA's too.

Tagging him would likely mean we are looking to trade him as we wont want to assume a 1 year 8-10 mill cap hit. Hardy would likewise be unlikely want to sign it as he would be looking for better job/financial stability for he and his family.

Either poor teams would be willing to offer something for him because its another way to dramatically help improve the roster with a proven player and good teams may be willing because they have a late rounder they don't value as highly (see Colts and the TR trade).

Great DE's do have value, anything is still possible regardless of what Hardy or Gettleman say to the press. But I do think we showed enough pass rushing debth to survive losing him, its the run stopping that will suffer some.

not 100% confirmed, but incredibly likely...a lot depends on who we pick up in FA.

the formula the NFL uses is a secret, but they take three things into consideration in addition to overall net gain/loss of FA players (which isn't that big of a deal because they are more interested in the value of FAs gained or lost).

1) salary with the new team

2) playing time with the new team

3) post season honors with the new team

the biggest factor is salary.

i seriously doubt that there is anyone that we are going to sign who will make near the amount that hardy will make with a new team. it's hard to imagine us not getting a third round comp. pick for losing him.

A comp pick is not guaranteed is it. Isn't there a formula based on how many FA you lose versus how many you sign used by the NFl? As far as the other stuff. Obviously If FT'D Hardy would only sign a contract somewhere he wants to go. What's the motivation for a team to send us a pick? Exclusive rights to negotiate with Hardy before he hits the open market. Our motivation? Guaranteed instant compensation not what might happen a year from now. Ok correct me if I'm wrong. But when Jared Allen was traded to the Vikes. Wasn't he in a contract year? Didn't the Chiefs franchise tag him and got to 2 round picks for him. Even tho I know it was done under the old NFLPA agreement. But a tag and trade for Hardy is possible. If Carolina can't trade Hardy. They can remove the franchise tag. It's been done before. I just don't see DG allowing Hardy to walk for nothing. That is my honest option.

They got a first, two thirds and a seventh for Allen and their sixth I think. But Hardy isn't on the level Allen was when he was tagged and traded. Allen was an absolute animal....
