What the Mike Mitchell signing says to the league

The reason our defense was good resulted from the front seven. The secondary is a plug and play unit. Doesn't matter who's there as long as they have some kind of playmaking ability (aka not Haruki Nakamura).

Generally speaking, I agree.  Great defenses start with the front seven, or even the front four if you will  But you have to admit that Mitchell brought something to our secondary that had been missing to an extent.   Even so, Hardy over Mitchell is a no brainer.  But Hardy over Mitchell, and several other players is a more difficult question to answer.  One that we will not know the answer to for a while.

What it will say next January is that the Panthers front seven is so out of this world dominating that they can make a bunch of has beens and never weres look pretty decent.

A year from now people will look at any db's that signed big deals after they left here and go lols remember when that guy was good in Carolina?

What does cutting Steve Smith say to the league?

We don't care how much you've done for us if we can save a million bucks. Thanks for nothing. Hit the road.

The savings aren't for this year, but for the two years after.

Why don't people understand this?

My head is exploding. It feels like we are showing everyone the door. I mean, good for Mitchell, but I'd love

to have some continuity in the secondary.

When we draft players instead of signing them, then we will have more continuity. We don't have the money to offer long term deals, so we have to fill holes with cheap FA on one year deals. Until we fill those holes with draft picks, it is just the way it is going to happen. Probably only a year or two more, then we will be in a much better place.

Patience...I know it is not a popular concept, but it is still true for the time being.

Because most folks are in I want to win now, give it to me now, and I don't have the patience to wait for this mess to straighten itself out mode.

Personally, as I still see a bright future. I am tickled pink at the discomfort some are having with the goings on right now. The emotionally challenged are giving me plenty of smiles, grins, and out and out giggles. But hey, that could just be me.

It says you can work your ass off but once you've outplayed your contract you will be tossed aside like yesterday's garbage.

The new NFL dictates that.

There will be 3 pay levels going forward..........and every team will use this scale.

High priced players

Middle class players

One year (show-me) players

You can only have so many high priced players so...................

you better be really good at picking out the value players in this league because............

it is either going to make you or break you.

Are you a veteran defensive player that needs a fresh start? Go play on the Panthers for a year on the cheap, and you will cash in the year after.

All in all, not a bad deal for us.

Sent from the Carolina Huddle App

well some got mad when I called us the minor league farm team for the NFL.

Because if the savings aren't for this year, then why not cut him after this year? every beat writer and insider has tried to explain its not about money and we gain minimal savings for cutting him now vs the next offseason.

A year ago, we were in dire straits. No money AT ALL, no winning record, new GM and a coach nobody wanted.

Fast forward, and after our new GM signed a bunch of 1 year deals and dragged us to a winning record.

Could be worse.

Bring on the "new" 1 year deals and keep plugging forward to that Super Bowl. It doesn't come over night.

If you draft well, that is the single biggest asset you can have. You can replenish cheaply. Unfortunately, we are just starting to use the draft well. It will still be a year or two before our kids cover the majority of the roster.

Once you have your roster set with draft picks. Then you can decide what core players you want to pay. When you have options, you have done well. We are going to get there, eventually. The problem is, most fans are not willing to wait. Especially after we have just started winning.

To clarify. I am not talking about filling the whole 53 man roster with draft picks. You still need UDFAa, and one year rentals. But of your main starters, and depth guys, if you can draft, you can keep this core solid. And that is going to happen.

Shows to go ya, Good coaching can mean the world to players. Rivera took a perceived under performer and turned him into a viable Safety.

But by all means. Let's get rid of Rivera. (Sarcasm) And I hate having to qualify that statement in order to keep the wolves at bay.

I'm sorry to do this and in no way am I trying to be rude or funny here but what does "shows to go ya" mean? I've heard "goes to show ya" but never the other way. Is that just a quirky little thing you do or what? I'm completely serious, do not take this as an attack I'm just curious.
