I think Gettleman...

What are you talking about? It is pretty clear to most people this wasn't a cap thing.

We could have kept both and still be at the 7 to 8 million under the cap we are now.

And from what I'm reading it might have been better to cut him next year. But all that still doesn't give a excuse for this team to regress this year if it happens.

We still have the pieces and cap room to improve this team and be in solid cap shape without taking a step back.

His cut wasn't about cap space this year. It was about 2015/16! How do we have the cap room to improve? For the love of god somebody show me because it isn't there! First person to say restructure loses ALLLL credibility! Restructuring overpaid players with "backloaded" contracts makes matters worse. LMAO at those that think, "oh yeah, player such and such is gonna agree to give back guaranteed money cause he loves us and we love him". Are some of y'all really this dense?

You may not find a better player out there than steve smith? But our run game needs to be the base of our offense. When Cam was throwing over 300 yds a game we were losing. A run and gun offense does not suit our defense. Everybody wants to come down on Getts. But you try making chicken salad out of chicken sh*t. Truth is, that's what he was hired to do, and he's doing it. September is a long way away.

What did thy dangle? This group of players vastly overachieved last season, if anyone thinks DG plan the day he walked into Charlotte wasn't to build this team for the duration then there stupid! He may be lucky to have a franchise qb and some core players but he also walked into a team without any future recievers as basically no offensive line or secondary to work with! as I said we can keep putting peices in and hope but where did that get us since 08? Nowhere! Last year was a fluke and honestly it's done more harm than good because then fans expectations are now set to high, this team talent wise is not at a level to dominate Even next year let alone the next five years, if we have to take a step back this year to give cam what he needs longterm then I'm happy with that, or let's go get Hurney back overpay everyone and hamstring ourselves for years to come.

Your points are valid ones.  Here is what the problem is.  Fans don't think rationally for the most part.  If last year was a fluke then so be it.  Fans are now looking at what the team did last year and now in the beginnings of the offseason rolling their eyes thinking here we go again.  it may be the correct strategy but its a bad look when you just increased ticket prices, cut your most recognizable player and have been silent in the free agent market.  Makes the fanbase uneasy at best.  When this happens it puts added pressure on the franchise to make a change be it through coaching, management or elsewhere.

This is just me speculating but a lot of cuts we have seen from the Panthers that didn't make much cap-sense were mainly due to potential "leadership" problems. Again, I am speculating but I think since Gettlemen came from NYG, which as I recall used to have problems with veterans who didn't really allow Eli to establish the team as his own, when things weren't going well for the team it was amazing how quickly tiki or someone would publicly mention how Eli has no respect in the locker room and I think the Gman thought similar scenario could happen here via Shula and what not... So it seems that trading Beason for literally nothing (A vocal leader of the panthers) and now with the release of Steve Smith - are all being done so the team can now become Cam's and Luke's. I don't agree with his thought process because I think both Beason and Smitty were good influences in the locker room and we didn't have the same leadership problems that NYG had.. I think he's (Gettlemen) is over reacting to non-existent problems because he has a mentality of what the culture should be like from his past experience in the Giants organization. But I will say that besides the release of smith and the unfortunate inability to resign Mitchell, he's done nothing but good things so far here in Carolina so I'll take a wait and see approach...

that's my main beef why the fug are we rebuilding when you were couple pieces from winning it all(per se)

that's the stupidest ish i've ever heard of, most good teams don't have cap anyway and we were waiting for the dumb rb contracts to run out..........

as big a hardy fan as i am it would have been the best choice to let him go, instead of signing him and creating more holes

I am still very angry about Gettleman and Smitty and this is not going to change, but i wish him all the best with the team.

This draft will be by far the most important draft ever for the Panthers.

Hey, at least he gets his disrespect honestly.

Can't hire yankees then get pissed off when they act like typical yankees.

If we don't go 4-12, can you imagine all the crow that will have to be eaten around this bipolar place?

I'll eat it with a poo eating grin on my face.  It'll be delicious!

I'll never wish ill on my team just so I can be proven right.  I've been wrong before and I'll be wrong again.  When it works out in our favor, I love being wrong!

we're not rebuilding

We have a QB, C, FB and TE. The rest of the spots and there backups are up in the air really.

Can you say anyone else is for certain? You definitely couldn't beyond claiming maybe someone has a spot here for maybe this upcoming year.

i meant rebuilding more broadly, like the roster-purge structural sort that we endured post-2009.

retooling the offense? yes. it was a horrible offense, it should be retooled. luckily we have our core (pro bowl center and quarterback) in place and we can go from there. i expect a similar turnaround this year as we saw on defense last year

Rebuilding is classed as adding to major holes, if you don't consider having no experienced established wide receivers and basically no Oline apart form a vet centre as a rebuild il not sure what you will ever class as one!

It's called a rebuild because of numerous reasons, most players picked up in the draft rarely produce year one, except certain players, most wide recievers take time to adjust to the NFL you may get the odd one like Keenan Allen but it's highly unlikely, as it stands mcnutt and king are what equates to draft pick players no experience, add to that another one or two picks that's four without experience we maybe able to snag one vet but that's a drop off from last years recievers.

Now the Oline it's a similar story, we may use Amini at guard he's ok but will likely use kugbila or another rookie guard on the other side and we will possibly have a new RT and a new LT, these players don't just come in and ball, chemistry is built it takes time, so you have basically a real possibility of four Oline me and four recievers all starting together at one time, and your telling me that isn't a rebuild or going to have any effect on the team performance and results?.

I'm not using some dumb excuse I'm just saying be prepared because this is what's likely to happen but if he new guys hit the ground running then awesome I'll be very happy, guys these positions have been neglected for a very long time we should actually be doing what most of you are saying adding a few pieces to the core but there are a lot of holes more than there should be, all I'm saying is to maybe lower expectations.

    • I dont think people realize how hard it is to find a consistent starting QB in the NFL. Byrce will not heart us to a SB but I do think he can manage to get us one or close..go all in on defense and change the Offensive passing game and play calls. I really think our biggest problem is our HC.  Take New Orleans QB for example, switch him and Bryce and I promise you it'll look similar or worse. New Orleans OC is levels ahead of Canales. And as far as the draft goes, in this division with as much rb talent as we face ..the answer...this guy:    Pick up a couple edge rushers in FA along with a corner and plug this guy in Rozeboom's spot. Defense solved. But only if we get a top tier rusher on that dline....jus saying
    • I think I'm going to the game in Los Angeles vs Paraguay, and the England / Croatia game here in Dallas since my mom is British.  For decent seats anywhere in the building(s) it looks like it will be upwards of $7k for the two games.  Insane. Just for perspective, you could buy field level EPL tickets for any one of the top sides in the league, and it would be 10% of the price you'll pay for crappy seats at the World Cup.
    • Meh… I knew this thread would turn into a Bryce/Tua comparison, when they couldn’t be further apart situations.   Dolphins catered there whole offense toward Tua, they brought in a coach that would run a Tua friendly offense, the went in got the best most explosive WR in the NFL and paired him the fastest WR in that years draft. Panthers have done the opposite, they went and got a Pete Carroll disciple who likes to run the ball under center, they drafted big slow WR who got little separation in college. Literally the polar opposite of Bryce’s scouting report coming out of Alabama.   Tua was a decent QB 2 years ago, but the concussions, lack of movement have caught up to him. He never had a great arm to begin with but now since he doesn’t want to get hit he’s taking the whole offense down with him.
