I just want everyone to remember one thing from 2013...

At many points during the 2013 season, the Panthers defense had as many as 5 rookies on the field at a single time.  All players Dave Gettleman brought to the Panthers.  Those players are, if you can't remember:

DT - Star Lotulelei

DT - Kawaan Short

LB - AJ Klein

CB - Melvin White

S - Robert Lester

Next year we might see something similar on offense.  In his first year as GM, Gettleman brought in players that immediately impacted the defense.  As bad as I thought he handled the Steve Smith situation, the man has a keen eye for talent.  Gettleman will get players that will make an impact immediately.  I fully expect the Panthers to be a playoff contender again next season, despite all the change.

He's high on king mcnutt and bond so maybe there's something there that we don't know

If just one of those players pan out, it's still a victory since none of those players even cost the Panthers a draft pick.  Bond is a HUGE man - a true hog molly, so it's easy to see why Gettleman likes him.

I trust him as well, but remember this.  Our offense is decimated.  Last year,

our D had 2 very good veteran DE's, and a decent Dwan to help the 2 rookies,

not to mention freaking DPOY Luke and a fabulous vet in Davis.

We're not heading into this year with that on offense.  We have Cam, Kalil, Tolbert and Greg.

all other running backs are questionable.  All wr's are questionable.  All guards and tackles

are questionable or worse.

If our O improves enough to win the division again, Getty deserves a big fat raise.

Again, he's building for the long term, but enjoy the ride.  Something tells me he'll make it

work fairly well next year.

I get what you are saying. Star Kawaan and Klein were all perfect draft choices and it is obvious both gettleman and rivera have a nose for defense and hogmollies.

At the same time we picked up Kugbila and Barner who are pretty much question marks.

I'm not yet convinced that we can assume our staff has a keen eye for offense but also no reason to think they don't. If Gettleman gets 3 offensive players in the draft of the caliber of Start Kawaan and Klein I will buy him season tickets on the 50 yard line...

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
