2013 Seahawks 9th best scoring defense all-time, 2013 Panthers 12th best all-time

So, the problem is on offense?  I guess that's new and refreshing!  Marshawn Lynch is a big difference maker between the teams - or simply put, clock management and ball control.

Very aggravating considering what little has been done to improve the offense.

Even more frustrating is that the defense lost a few players that provided quality depth.

From the article:

"If you ignore the Z-score and look at just the PPG above or below average, the top defenses since 1978 are Tampa Bay 2002 (+9.8), Chicago 1985 (+9.4), Seattle 2013 (+8.9), Carolina 2013 (+8.6), Pittsburgh 2008 (+8.2), and Baltimore 2000 (+8.0). That’s five Super Bowl winners out of six teams, the maximum possible given this combination."

Cool stat.  And for the most part, Carolina's defense is still intact.  The front 7 will be exactly the same save for some new additions.  Secondary remains to be seen, but I have high hopes for Cason since he played his best seasons under Rivera.

I think everything fell into place with the d because Ron and co were coaching for their lives.

Now the heat is just simmering and everyone is thinking rebuilding so no pressure.

I don't think RR ever coached "for his job."

I think I know what you mean. But...don't all coaches coach "for their job" every game?

Rivera is Rivera. You know what you are going to get from him. He is willing to listen and grow, but basically he is going to be/coach the only way he knows. Give it your best, and let the chips fall where they may.

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
