Should they move Barner to receiver?

Recommended Posts

he does not create a mismatch when out wide.  i can see it now...as he stretches his arms out, he snags the ball over the middle of the field........then he gets crushed by a hard hitter safety and is out for the year.

It does if he gets matched up one on one with a LB.  Most teams that heavily involve their RBs in the passing game try to get precisely that match up.

You need to draw up another play because I don't believe he'll be running that route.

No, just use him in more of a Sproles mode where you can more easily dictate the match ups.

Yeah, man, I don't know exactly why he wasn't used in that role more this past season. Perhaps it was him needing more transition time, lack of faith by Rivera, or lack of faith and creativity by Shula.  In any event, I look forward to seeing them get Barner more involved in the offense this year in that vein, as Rivera reportedly always coveted a scat back in the mold of Sproles.

I don't think you move Barner to WR. I think you use him as a running back but drop off screens and short passes as a relief valve and let him run much like NO did with Sproles.

Screens, draws, dump-offs are just 3 ways of getting him the ball out of the back field. Let the kids be WR, and let Barner be a RB. I truly believe there is playing time for Barner. Or, the opportunity to earn those touches is right there for him. IMO, this is a big year for Barner and Pilares. FIFO.

but he could do well catching passes out od the back field where he can outrun the LBs.  like someone else mentioned.  he's just too tiny to be going up for jump balls.

This rang a bell. Why does it seem, to me, that our RBs are not a part of the passing game? They always seem to be standing still when they get the ball. Like, okay, here's the ball. If you don't mind, could you do something positive, if possible, with it?

Out of all the damm kids around. Barner, and Pilares, are the two with the most to prove. I can see hopes pinned on Pilares as the one to work with Cothcery and make the kids better every day. The opportunity is there for him to take over. If he can? I would feel so much better.

Barner really has no competition. If he can show improvement, and better hands, he may stick around. But that last RB spot isn't exactly a high priority.

Not sure if this has already been discussed, but should the staff consider moving Barner to receiver, specifically slot.  He's got the speed and size, but I'm not sure how well he catches.  Good move or not?

Haha good one, I see what you did ther...wait it's April second
