I think we need to draft offensive and defensive leaders in 2026. Picking around the middle of the pack, we should go with the best MLB in the draft. Get someone who can run the defense and hold his teammates accountable. Someone who can learn the defensive playbook quickly and have it built around them (and who knows if we will have the same DC next season). Then, grab a developmental QB in the second round. There are going to be good ones there and I agree that they need time to learn the NFL game, especially considering the whirlwind of coaching changes many of them see (or pursue) with the transfer portal. Maybe even specifically look for a QB that has spent their entire college career at one school (which might show how valuable they were to their own coach). But if those two are in doubt, just grab O-line or Edge. That's the classic easy choice.

Agreed, Starting with Hurney and going to Fitterer just put us further down the list. Very few starting caliber players. Many don't like Morgan but overall, I think he's done a great job bringing quality FA and drafting well. No GM is going to hit on every pick. That said I also think DM learns from his mistakes. Most importantly keeping our owner out of the decision making is part of the reason we are starting to climb out of the hole.

Its too late for that. Time has run out. You dont give him a ext if he plays "decent". He played "decent" at the end of last year and look what happened.

I’m not necessarily advocating sticking with Bryce. His highs show the ability is there, but there’s enough bad film out there to doubt that he can consistently enough play at a high enough level. But this video from Brett Kollman is a pretty good argument to give it a bit more time, whether that be rolling with Bryce just next year or picking up his 5th year option (not extending him). The gist is that the structural (wider hashes) and rule (3 yd vs 1 yd thresholds for intelligible offensive lineman downfield penalties) differences in the college and NFL have led to wildly different play calling and scheme diets in college. There is much more shotgun and RPO calls in college and screen/quick throws. This simply doesn’t set up young QBs to be able to play under center, which is more preferred in the NFL due to RBs being able to more effectively run out of that formation. They don’t know how to do it and have to learn. Yes, the NFL has trended more toward college style offense in the last decade or so, but it isn’t that pronounced and is more out of necessity than desire. And on top of all that, they ask the young QBs to do all this learning with coaching and other personnel churn going on around them. Bad results lead to coaches getting fired and new ones with different ideas on scheme and footwork and different terminology and playbooks coming in. It makes it harder on those young QBs to learn. So we may drop Bryce for a young QB starter in the draft and be in a similar situation. With a QB who is going to take years to learn how to operate in an NFL style offense and will struggle along the way. So you have to weigh whether the struggles we see from Bryce are more due to this learning process vs solely physical limitations on his part. It’s almost undoubtedly a bit of both, but the answer to that question I think dictates your strategy at QB over the next few years. And of course, you have to consider what the alternatives available are. I’m neither a Bryce hater or a Bryce Stan and I don’t have an answer to that question. But I do fear that if we move on from him, unless it’s for an established player, we’re just in for continued frustration on the QB front because it’s going to take a few years for a college QB to develop (Drake Maye’s don’t grow on trees).

The defense has pulled that feat off this season though. Multiple times. offense has not had a single good first half all season. Only and good opening scripted drive paired with disappointing play. defense has been the actual unit you can measure real and consistent improvement IMO. Still holes and flaws to it that aren’t going away until new bodies get here but they really are the story of the season IMO

One thing about RB's and LB's is they are going to get hurt. It's inevitable. Having a fresh Chuba is not a bad thing. My only criticism of this entire situation is that I wish our staff would adjust personnel to matchup a little better. I think Chuba is a lot better than Rico against the stacked boxes we've seen the last two weeks. They are very different backs with very different strengths, and I love them both. Rico is so good at identifying the hole early, and hitting it full speed early. He's much better at breaking the big run. Chuba is a much more patient back, and finds 3 yards when there's nothing there better than Rico. It's in no way a criticism of either, but I think Chuba would have had more success than Rico the way the Saints and Falcons attacked us from a Defensive standpoint. When you put 9 in the box, often times there is no hole to attack.

Just poor roster management. The NFL out of all the professional leagues is set up for a team to rise from worse to first from one season to the next. So to go 7 seasons without a winning record you have to make some really poor choices in coaching hiring, and roster management.

Yes, I notice he also ran hard like Rico has been. He didn't dance around as much. It would be great to get both of them back hitting 5-10 per run.

He's either getting 5 year option, extended or we let him seek free agency. There won't be no bring him back for one year type deals his agent wouldn't allow it. I just hope it isn't for like 50 million 5 year type deals. I have nothing against him and root for him every game. He's like Rozebloom , he gets a sack I'm cheering, but wouldn't be mad at a up grade. Got to be a fan of the team and not a single player. A large contract for an underperforming Qb will keep us from paying the defensive talent we need to take the next step..

Even the best panther teams historically embarrass themselves in primetime games. Combine that with Bryce having just used up his one good game per season….they really should’ve shown up against the saints to give me confidence in this game

In our 6 victories, this team hasn’t played nor performed the same way twice. We’ve won with defense, we’ve won with offense, we’ve won running the ball, we’ve won passing the ball. Consistency is a foreign concept to this team. It’s gonna be “box of chocolates” style for the remainder of this weird ass season.

He's got pretty close to the same number of 20+ this week as last but he approx a fourth of his passes went at least ~15 yards down field this week ... He only had 3 of 25 going that distance vs New Orleans. He was looking further downfield imo.

Poor ownership decisions dating to around 2019 Then the trade for Bryce Young was very costly and he so underperformed (IMO) that they were compelled to pump even more assets into putting players around him. OL to RB to WR - FA money and high draft picks, you name it. But offense was king and defense was an afterthought. For most of three years. Until we picked Scourton in the second this year there was nothing over a single 3rd round pick spent on tne defense since Jaycee Horn was taken in the first round - and he is on his second contract. Defense has been a black hole. That is the Cliff Notes version, or at least it is my Cliff Notes version.

Well the reason for the tight playbook is heavily debated. Without going into that I will just say we haven’t beat up on any top defenses so far, offensively. Atlanta looked mediocre at best. Being kind. They are our big victim. SF is supposed to be weak on defense, I think it will be interesting.
