Seahawks lock up Sherman - 4yrs - 57mil, 40mil guaranteed

Most of the teams that have locked up their QBs to hundred million dollar contracts have proceeded to not get to the Super Bowl with them.

Likewise, it seems to me that when you see a guy get huge money like this (Revis, for example) the next thing you watch is their downfall.

Coincidence or trend?

Agreed.  Take a look at the lat 10 winners, the only one that I can remember on a huge deal was Manning 1.

Everyone else was on a friendly one (Brees) or a rookie deal, IIRC.

The nfl salary cap by design is set up to hinder teams like the Seahawks from being successful for very long

If you want real, long term success, you better draft well.

That's why a team like the Steelers has been able for years to just sit back and watch somebody else pay big money to their free agents (and fry their cap in the process) while they just went to the next man up.

The steelers haven't been relevant for a few years and they just dropped big bucks on mike mitchell so they aren't a great example.

They're going to be cap strapped eventually...

I think I heard that the contracts of Thomas and Sherman are front-loaded so they are getting their money up front which will allow the Hawks to re-sign Wilson... but what about Wagner?

I guess they could cut Lynch next year to save some money.

Here's hoping they give Isiah Thomas (Wilson) Michael Jordan type money while we also give the real Michael Jordan of football (Cam) MJ/GOAT money.

The salary cap is indeed the great equalizer, but as long as we have Cam and Luke for the next decade+ I fear no one.

One last thing, I am foaming at the mouth already for these @$$holes to return to BOA after Cam's throw in the dirt and DeAngelo's fumble the last two years, the latter of which arguably propelled them to the Lombardi and prevented us. I want blood.

Maybe not now.  They used to be, though.

Honestly, I don't think Mike Tomlin is that great a coach, but the Steelers never fire coaches, so...
