Suggestions for life in corporate America?

So I'm here in Charlotte for an internship with Parker Hannifin and I start this Tuesday. Having never worked a "real" job before and as someone who is still in college, I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous about adapting to the culture of corporate America. Yes I'm a business major and I understand the concepts of what a corporation is, the tiers of management, and the importance of financial performance/integrity. But I've never really experienced a true corporate atmosphere other than visiting my parents at work. Is it as bad as a lot of people make it out to be? Any good advice?

Rule #1 Kiss a lot of ass when it comes to dealing with managers and executives.

Rule #2 Don't let people walk all over you unless they effect ur pay.

Corporate politics are a bitch. I'm 5 years removed from college. My boss did a wonderful job training me corporate politics. Be always nice and smile. Be respectful! People will try to dump their work on u. If these people are not ur boss and do not effect ur pay do not be shy to tell em NO! If you show ur weakness people will walk all over you.

I'm a senior manager at my company. I'm one of the nicest people and I will treat everyone with respect. But if I found out someone is trying to create shortcuts and that's creating more work for me, I will be a complete dick. I'm not getting paid for doing other people job.

Since u r brand new, u will be like a lamb walking into wolfpack. 2-4 month and u should get a general feel for corporate world.

Be a team player.

Look listen and learn from the older workers.

Ask good questions and be eager to help whoever.

Dont be a know it all. Even if you are.

Initiate after work stuff. Happy hour or hanging.

Say no for every two things you say yes too.

Avoid gossip. You get roped in and people will use it against you.

Make people laugh without being obnoxious.

Dont think you know a better way.

Dont be a know it all

Defiantly stay away from gossip

Get to know the office. Seen to many people come into a office and stick there foot in their month. In turn people against them before they have a chance.

    • 5 straight completions in the 4th quarter to get into the red zone and then score a stand up rushing TD and celly in one of the best defenses faces to bring the score within 1 possession against the super bowl champs is "stunned" to you?
    • yes, if you read what I said - that was due to his record breaking 245 yard 4th quarter performance in garbage time when the Seahawks were already celebrating. If Bryce puts up big numbers in the 4th quarter, people like you are quick to call it garbage time stats but seem to get selective when other QB's do it because it doesn't fit your narrative.  also, I'm logical enough to admit that Drake is a great QB and his performance had a lot to do with his protection, play calling, and other aspects. The game does not fall completely on the QB. Just like how the Panthers were still in the game vs Seattle until Horn's penalty changed that. It is a team sport, so many factors, players, refs, coaches are involved and it only takes one thing to change the game. the obsession with Bryce is just nauseating at this point and if you pay attention on here, it's the same 10 users quoting and pieing each other. it's super weird and everywhere else you go, opinions on Bryce are trending upwards. the way the season ended, the vibe at the stadium, the performance, should have everyone excited about this next season. Idk, maybe I just look at life and my entertainment outlets differently than others.
