Starting ur own business

Co-owned a business that I started with some friends back in high school and another in college. Yes, they were real businesses and not just playtime.

I am a minority owner at my current place of employment and will eventually become the majority owner.

My advice is to think very carefully about your life goals (personal and professional) and the ways in which being a business owner (risk and reward) can and will impact your ability to achieve those goals. Once you've gone through that entire thought process and thorough evaluation (with your family, duh), do it again about ten more times. Seriously. Then go get some serious outside perspective on what you are trying to build. Then evaluate some more. And some more.

All of my comments apply to starting a business where you will employ others. If you are not employing others, it's a very different and much more simple evaluation process in my opinion.

I started up a business with 2 other fellows last year doing the same thing we were doing before. The company we used to work for was going to phase out several of our sections of the company and just focus on web development. So I guess I was kinda forced into it. Sure there has been bumps in the road, and many times I wanted to give up, but I enjoy what I do and I love being my own boss. The start up was the hardest part about doing it. The clients found out what was going to happen and we kept all of them with us, so we didn't have to go out and try to drum up business. We've actually added a couple more accounts with a few more on the horizon.

Started my own business in Virginia and was doing exceptionally well. Moved to NC last year when the wife took a contract down here and found out there is no reciprocal agreement between NC and VA in my licensed profession, so NC says I have to re-license down here and essentially start over, which would cost me thousands and a couple years to get back to where I was. Needless to say, it won't happen.

The local Chamber of Commerce had start-up grant money and funded 50% of my initial costs, which was great when I found out how much my website was going to run me. Site had a few nuances to it as part of the business, so it wasn't your run-of-the-mill website.

I'm planning on starting online business with possibility of branching out.  I have couple of ideas.  I will do research and then I'll make my decision in which direction I will go.  I realized that US is a service industry and so I'm focused on providing a service.

    • You making fun of or not realizing how important that actually is leads me to believe you don’t have either of those assets and are subconsciously upset about it, or you’ve never been in a position to be a leader and thus you don’t value good leadership which Bryce oozes with.
    • I said this last night to family. You can look at Bryce as not a “strong and physical” presence and that’s not going to change on you can look at it, that this guy has the type of skillset that sets him up to only get better for the next 5-7 years every year. He’s not going to know less about the game next year than this year. His timing will be better, his pocket presence better (even though the guy works around a pocket amazingly in my opinion), everything is just going to improve every year and I believed he’s already proved the doubters wrong other than nut huggers on here who just want a big strong man to drool over.
    • The Seahawks won an emotional, divisional, overtime rivalry game vs the Rams on a Thursday night (Dec 18).  That gives them 10 days to prepare for the Panthers, but the Christmas holiday fell a week later--I bet they were afforded an extra day for travel-many coming back east.  Following the Panthers, Seattle plays at San Francisco for the division title (in all probability).   The Rams finish the season with games against the Falcons and Cardinals, two likely wins, pushing them to 13-4.  The Niners finish the season with home games against the Bears and Seahawks. Seattle finishes the season with the Panthers on the road and SF in California.   It is easy to see how preparing for the Panthers, during the holiday break and with the Niners waiting for them in SF a week later for (what could be) the NFC West title and #1 Seed in the NFC, could create the perfect trap game scenario.  The Panthers at home are 5-2.   In the past 2 weeks, the Seahawks struggled to beat the Phillip Rivers Colts in Seattle and then pulled off a miraculous, emotional victory at home vs. the Rams.  I am not convinced that they are as good as advertised. Seattle is a TD favorite in Charlotte.  I feel that Carolina by 3 may be more accurate.  While I am still not confident in this team's consistency and it never seems to dominate, it sure feels like a trap game for Seattle to me.  How could they NOT be thinking of San Francisco right now?  They are not used to being in this position (current players) and it is human nature.  Carolina 27, Seattle 24.
