Drafting a new QB every 4-5 years

i would do it as a way to groom backups to become trade bait a la the packers

mark brunell, matt hasselbeck, aaron brooks, matt flynn, then aaron rodgers became a starter...

I thought this was going to be the thread direction.

I think we started looking this past year and didn't find one but are keeping our eyes open every draft with Gettleman.  He looks for top talent and given how sought of a commodity QBs are, if we can find one to tease the league with as bait and catch something, that'd be a solid move.

I can kinda see the reasoning for this. But when you do get that singular talent, like a Cam, you just have to bite the bullet and keep the fugger.

Maybe if you aren't sure of who you have, maybe you can do this. But if you are sure, it is a waste of a draft pick. And you just don't have enough of those to waste.

Remember, this is football. You don't have to keep them when they suck.

Of course there is some cap hit. However, there no guaranteed contracts, and smart teams can structure them well, as Frisco recently with Kaep.

So no. You don't plan to draft a new QB every 4-5 years if you're very happy with the one you got.

Not if  you're not; hey!! :phew:  Lol

This would be bad for thr nfl as well. You would be turning the face of franchise's into the new running backs. Gone would be the greatest of all time debates because once release other teams would treat them like used goods. No more hall of famers we would just say no one was better than brett farve or payton manning or bart star.

nah the chances of landing a franchise qb or one who is at least good enough to take you to a Superbowl are not good. you'd be lucky to end up with consecutive Andy Dalton's much less Gabbert and Christian Ponder back to back

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
