Sportsonearth - Panthers have 2nd ranked front 7

Recommended Posts

well I was feeling good till I read this paragraph.

:You will not see that Panthers team this year, because their front office put in extra hours to screw everything up. But they were so busy gutting the receiving corps, secondary and offensive line that Dave Gettleman and Jerry Richardson never got around to the front seven. That's a good thing, because the Panthers' outstanding front seven is the only thing that will keep them competitive this year."

Yeah, that was what we were doing...gutting. I can't give any credit to a writer who thinks we did that because we wanted to.

Getty's hands were tied.

Exactly. And frankly our WRs this year are as good and could easily be better than last year's. Gross retired so there's absolutely nothing G-man could've done about that. Secondary is the exact same as last year, just with different names, but we've also got our UDFAs continuing development. People are just clueless when it comes to our offseason.

Not really, but feel free to think that. Steve Smith should still be here, and he's not because of the drama Gettleman caused. Gross would still be here if he hadn't pissed him off when he first got here. Lafell was gone, but you know poo was getting ugly when they made one last attempt to sign him back. They wanted Ginn back and refused to pay him, not that I blame him for that one. But he dropped the ball on not signing Nicks.

KB, Nicks, and 89 would put fear in defenses, you can't convince me otherwise. No need to cry over spilled milk tho, its done with. Just don't act like the decisions he's made this offseason were 100% the right thing to do. Different GMs would have handled things differently. Let's not forget that Hardy still doesn't have a contract, and if he ends up somewhere else next season then that will turn out to be a horrendous decision.

I love the fact that he went out and got his QB a guy who I believe will be a superstar in this league. I don't blame him for the LT position, because there really isn't anything he can do. That damage was done the moment he asked his Probowl LT to take a pay cut.

But his hands weren't tied, he made the decisions he thought were best for the team. Thats his job and time will tell if he made the right choices. But other roads could have been taken, he took his and we will see where it leads.

Smith was going to retire next year anyway so we really lost very little in the long run.  And NIcks hasn't been healthy enough to risk much of anything on him.  There was also no guarantee that if we had signed Nicks and kept Smith that we would have drafted Benjamin so to assume that all three of them would be here is not a given at all.  Did Gettleman handle things the best he could?  Probably not.  But as you say all we can do is see what happens.  I for one think our receivers will be as good or better than last year's group. After all who was Ginn, Hixon and even LaFell as receivers. Cam made Ginn and LaFell is never going to be that great.  So again we are losing a diminished Smith.  Not sure that is worth all the angst being exerted lamenting his not being signed. I expect this group to be hungry and very hardworking.

Quinn > Hardy

Brockers < Lotulelei

Donald > Short

Long < Johnson

Laurinatis < Kuechly

Ogletree < Davis

Dunbar > Blackburn

Pretty even in my opinion, if Donald lives up to expectations I give the nod to the Rams, barely. Our LB's beast there's though, it also could be a different story if Klein starts and plays well.

We lead the league in the sacks and where no. 2 in stopping the run!! We have much more balanced line than Rams.

Posted a comment in that article under sportsfan8912. People are bashing Luke bc of the last play of the pats game and haven't even watched him play besides that. It's ridiculous.

That makes no sense.  Everyone tries to hold Gronk near the end-zone, and he'll usually still make the catch or get the call.

Against us though Brady had pressure in his face and completely missed Gronk, and threw the ball directly to Lester underneath.  I really don't understand how so many people forget the ball has to be catchable for there to be a defensive PI.  Even if nobody was covering Gronk directly, Gronk would have had to commit offensive pass interference to make a play on that ball.
