Utopia

I like how they basically just picked people that fulfilled stereotypes for characters

Redneck with no teeth.

Arrogant asshole atheist from Cali

Pregnant black woman

Black angry ex-con

etc.

I watched about 20 minutes of it and finally had to turn it off. It was awful.

It would actually be awesome to see an experiment like this run, but the only way you'd get any true results from it would be for it to not be a television show.

That's what I noticed when I was watching the ads during the commercial breaks in the Panthers game, where each teaser was an intro to one of the characters. The premise is, let's have 15 strangers start a society from scratch and see how it develops. Okay, that's an interesting premise.

Then you see the characters, and each one is a broadly drawn stereotype of a human being who has a very extreme personality that is clearly going to conflict with the other cast members. Well fug! That's not about society! That's about pitting people with extreme opinions against others with extreme opionions who will be unable to find common ground with each other so we can have juicy on-screen conflicts. Not to mention the slut and the poon-hound so we can have a sex scene in the grotto!

Will definitely skip.

I bought in and downloaded the live streaming App. I paid the monthly subscription with the idea I can watch 4 cameras and move them around. Looking to see if I can check out the skinny dipping area today. I will take screenshots.

I was actually curious about this (with it still being a network show and all), and from the Internet digging it seems they still blur out the nudity. The "live" feed is either not so live, or the random internet/message board/reddit posts I saw were lying.

They committed for a year and it's going on live during that time? That's bold. What happens if the show bombs before the year is up? Do they just roll in and say, "Shut it down folks! Pack your bags. Show's over!"

The premier ratings were a measly 4.6, and bound to drop from there. Odds are pretty good this show doesn't survive past 8 episodes.

It's like the fox producers trolling America.

If Utopia was a Carolina Huddle show the cast would be:

Cam lover that hates the Panthers

Panther lover that hates Cam

Guy that wants Rivera fired

Guy that wants the team to lose for a better draft pick

Guy that wants us to switch to 3-4 defense to get AJ Klein on the field

Above guy has a twin brother that wants us to hire Bill Cowher

All three of the Huddle Women

Guy that played Cam in Madden

Guy that cannot let go of Steve Smith

Steelers fan. Why? Because he's been a PSL owner for 17 years and he will agree to anything to get away from his wife Terry (yes she was named after Bradshaw)

Basically the huddle is utopia.....

reality tv typecasts the hell out of people. they want personality and demographical archetypes to fulfill preexisting roles in peoples' minds. you see it in the amazing race, survivor, etc.

interesting concept for the show, but i won't watch it.

I take it for what it is worth...

It is a social experiment that is intended for entertainment...

I actually thought of you, PhillyB, when I heard about this show... based on your threads in the past about the ideas you have had about a communal property or whatever...

I think people long for their own utopia, but I think it is asking a lot for people to commune like this in such a small group... especially if they are on polar ends of the spectrum...

A couple things I was kinda disappointed in with the show were I would prefer they actually be cut off from the outside world and have more than 15 people.

I loved The Colony and wished they would bring that back, but it had its flaws too.

The issue is that this show is in no way trying to create a true utopia nor social experiment.

The have intentionally put together a bunch of personalities that they know will cause turmoil and chaos....and have probably told them to do so.

Just like all other reality shows, it is NOTHING that even remotely resembles reality.

    • I would write “give remmers tight end help” on a yellow sticky note and stuck it in shulas playbook the night before superbowl 50.
    • And don’t worry about Bryce he will be great… Peyton Manning had a horrible rookie year too 😂
    • Nothing wrong with it at all until you start telling others they are bad fans or not fans. But you are the good fan because you never say negative stuff about the team.    I did many years of that type of uninformed fanning because there really was no info and coverage like there is with the internet.    I mean, I used to go to the store and get Street and Smith’s annual football issue. That was about the extent of what you could get if you didn’t live in a big city with sportswriters covering and reporting.  There was no video to look at or replay the games and if you didn’t live in the market you could only rarely see your football team play.    TI have fanned since being a kid in the early 1960s, and as late as 1995 - ‘97 I lived in Atlanta and good luck getting more than 3 or 4 games a year on TV. No radio either. No print coverage outside of an AP recap and box unless they played Atlanta.  People today that have always had the network connection don’t know.    I wasn’t very educated about the Panthers until I finally got internet.
