QB Trade Speculation (Tin Foil Hats Needed)

On the one hand, after a showing like Anderson had, and the game they had, St. Louis would probably give us their first or second next year for Anderson. But on the other hand, I like the idea of knowing with certainty that we have a starting caliber backup if and when Cam gets hurt, and to be his mentor.

If I was Getts, I'd certainly entertain offers, but I honestly don't know what I'd do. Fortunately I'm not paid to make those calls.

I'm pretty confident that if anybody offered a 1st or 2nd for DA that he would he dealt, unless we had reason to believe Cam would out for a while.

Lets look at a couple facts and see what we can make of them. Feel free to put down your copy of "Catcher and the Rye" and put on your tin foil hat.

The Panthers have 3 QBs on their roster for the first time since I can remember. Makes sense with Cams offseason filled with surgery and rib fractures.

However, with Cam healing from his ailments, that would make a backup QB expendable at this point. Both DA and J-Webb have proven to be capable back-ups.

The Panthers have been clearing cap space for no apparent reason.

Cam likely could have started week 1, but there may have been some pressure to showcase a back-up QBs talents. It may not have been the main reason, or a reason at all but, it may have played a role in the decision.

OK, conspiracy mode over, what do you think. Are the Panthers preparing to trade away one of the back-up QBs?

We have tons of reasons to be clearing cap space...we have been in cap hell since DG arrived.

And the value of DA is much greater to us than other teams. Webb has none

First of all, we would never get a first or second... Pats barely got a 2nd for Cassel and he did a little more than play great for one game.

second of all.. DA said hed rather be here backing Cam up in charlotte than go try and start elsewhere.. i know thats not exactly his choice but is still valuable.

Not a whole lot of love for Joe Webb in this thread.

My thoughts yesterday were that St. Louis was pretty hard up for a QB now.

I don't know that they have a team around him to worry about getting a guy like Anderson via trade, but if they didn't completely consider tanking the season I would at least expect them to inquire.

When we kept 3 QBs, Cam's health wasn't a concern for me. I thought back then that we were going to try to move Anderson or Webb before the deadline. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if we did.

Anderson should net at least a 3rd based on his past and his performance in recent opportunities. I also wouldn't be opposed to getting some OL, WR, or DB gain either.

Webb might snag a 6th or 7th. Maybe even more if the other team wanted him bad enough.

The Browns would've been lucky to get a first or second for him coming off of his pro bowl season... no way we would get that.

If he were to be traded, which he won't, I imagine his market is more like a 5th round pick max.

Desperation can do funny things to a team. Week 1, and St. Louis is already down to their 3rd string QB. Unless they just want to phone it in the whole season, it's not that crazy to think they would give up a high pick.

    • I think everyone says Mike Evans because of size, but really they have different strengths and play styles.  Tmac is better on intermediate routes and not nearly as good at contested catches.
    • At this point, it is criminal to go into the 2026 training camp/OTA's with XL penciled in as a #2 WR. The team must upgrade, either through free agency or the draft. If he cannot give 100% effort on significantly less snaps as a #4-6 WR(players like Tremayne have done that consistently) then I don't think you have a player worth rostering beyond the trade deadline. Offensively, we eventually have to upgrade to an NFL starting caliber C. It's been almost the length of time from Gross to Ikey since Kalil retired and we have below average to terrible C play. Love Mays as a BC-esque utility backup but he will never be an above average long term starting C.  The TE room is one of the worst in the NFL but it's a low usage position in this offense, so the investments are likely to be small, if any. I would never expect to see an elite TE in a Dave Canales offense. 100% agree on OL depth. We actually aren't bad there but BC will be gone, Mays is a UFA, Corbett is a UFA and Zavala has been both injured and bad. We have to bolster that depth again or resign guys like Mays and Corbett to keep that depth somewhat stable.
    • Bingo. The dude is a baller no doubt and I'd love to have him in a vacuum but like you said he's gonna fetch a haul so the only teams it really makes sense for are teams with an overall good roster who they feel an edge rusher like Crosby would out them over the top in terms of competing for SBs. I'd be looking st teams like the Pats, Bucs, Ravens, Seahawks, etc. It wouldn't be shocking to see him moved. He may be more valuable to a rebuilding team in the form of the draft assets he'd fetch than he is on the field. He should still have several more good years in the tank at 28 but by the time the Raiders can reasonably expect to rebuild he's gonna be on the decline.
