Normally you can't blame a loss like this on one person, but in this case...

You can make a pretty good argument for blaming it on Melvin White's performance. He had primary coverage responsibilities on 3 TD scoring plays.

Rivera benched White in favor of Josh Norman, not sure if Norman is the answer either but it's time to find out whether or not Norman can get the job done at this level.

If there's a small silver lining in all this, it's that our lack of pass rush is exposing just how bad some of our DB's really are so we can perform an honest evaluation. I don't expect White to shut people down, but he got torched on 3 big plays with some pretty basic coverage assignments yesterday.

the Torrey Smith was on Cason, he got away with a small push but I was okay with it not being called.  The other 2 were rushing td's and even the first one was flukey, with the tipped ball and all but he still lost 89.  then Smith beat him like he has beaten many better CB's straight off the line.

in no possible way or fashion is this loss put on a CB that gave up 2 td's, not even close.  White didnt play his best but this is so far off base I dont even know why I am acknowledging it.

Again.

Oline is being handled = no running game and pressure on QB

Dline is being handled = Olineman attached to our LB's and secondary being exposed.

Trenches are where we are getting beat.  Clean that up and a lot of the other stuff goes away or at least becomes clearer

Had no safety help over the top that he was supposed to have, in addition to him having to watch the run every single play because our front 7 couldn't stop it. And our offense only putting up 10 points? Your title should be "Melvin White was horrible" or something to that degree. But he's not the reason we lost. Not one person on the team outside of Cam played well.

If the pass rush not doing well and giving us the opportunity to evaluate our corners we will soon realize every single one of our corners are horrible. Their deficiencies have been masked by the elite pass rush. There's a reason we aren't paying them poo for money, because they aren't good.

Worth remembering that Smith would have practiced against White a lot last year. He'd know a lot about his habits, tendencies, strengths and weaknesses.

You can say White would know him too, but in that situation I have to give the veteran the advantage.

you know better than to bring logic in to the huddle

    • PJ's completion % was 63% when starting games in Carolina.  Which I believe is better than Bryce when starting.  And again, 4-3 as the starter here and the LONE QB Carolina has been able to actually win with in the Tepper era.  If you ask a gambling gunslinger to come into blowouts.....they are going to go down in a blaze of glory.  Which he would do.  Yeah, he isn't good.  And gunslingers are supposed to have rockier stats than checkdown QBs.   So....why does PJ Walker have a better comp % as a starter than Bryce Young.  And for every knock you want to make about PJ, you can find something or a skillset that PJ does better than Bryce.   I didn't say PJ had good field vision.  He doesn't.  Tell me about Bryce after he comes off the first read lol.  Let me repeat, PJ Walker is not a good QB.  He is NFL depth and an in house arm.  Bryce Young doesn't belong in a convo w/ Jake and Cam.  He belongs closer in a convo with the backup caliber QBs Carolina was forced into playing.  Which isn't just PJ Walker.  But Kyle Allen.  Moore.  Guys like that.
    • Oh I see what you meant by memory. I will trust my memory, I have looked a a lot of those ball charts for Bryce and they trend a general pattern. They thing that has changed that I have noticed more recently is the reduction in the bunching of behind or at  the LOS passes over to his right.  Aside from the quantity of throws recently since the running game has become a more dominant factor.
    • Yes but you basically said you are going from a quick skim of those charts without doing the same for Bryce and/or Andy. So you are going memory vs. snapshots. That's not going to be a very comprehensive analysis.
