You are Gettleman: knowing what you know now do you sign hardy to a big ass deal?

Hardy

  1. 1. Pay him?

    • Pay the man
    • Let him walk after the season

If he's innocent, try to keep him with a good deal for both sides, just not a "big ass contract."  Remember he was non-existent his first couple of years.  I think Ealy will be a stud in a couple of years, and he's built a lot like Hardy.  That would be a pretty solid D-line with Star and KK, IMO.

if his arm can be twisted into a cheaper or incentive-laden contract that lets us kick him to the curb at little cost if he becomes a pain in the ass then you do it.  drew rosenhaus is his agent though so that's unlikely which means bye bye kraken.

This.  There's no way I'd tie up a bunch of guaranteed money in Hardy.  Hardy on the field = no question marks whatsoever.  He's clearly our best DL and it took his absence for us to realize that.  But, Hardy off the field = HUGE question mark.  I'm not sure that Hardy is a bad guy necessarily, but he is a loose cannon for sure and you can't tie up a bunch of guaranteed money in a loose cannon.  You gotta feel like you're getting a sure thing when you start slinging around big chunk of guaranteed money.

Do we need to get Burfict in on this?

signing Greg Hardy doesn't make you an apologist for domestic violence...

Better to sign a guy who, after this will have learned something. I know that everybody is up in arms on their morality meters right now. But its incredibly hypocritical on this league to demonize brothers ... (and allow me to say this without anybody getting afraid of the R word)... particularly black players.

Ben Rothlisberger was accused of rape in 2008 and 2010... Apparently he settled out with them quickly. And is still the starting quarterback of the Steelers.

Michael Vick's dog fighting case... jail time.

Same position. Both wrong. Different outcome.

You guys can sit here and act like its not a factor... but as Panther fans... before Cam Newton retires... you're going to have to be honest about how race is apart of how players are assessed at certain positions.

Wes Welker's (substance abuse) suspension is over with the Broncos... but other players (names escape me) have been suspended the entire season.

Again... Im not at all excusing what he's done... that is a process for the courts to decide. THATS WHY WE HAVE THEM. But if everyone in America got fired based upon what they did at home, then the unemployment would be much higher than it is now.

If his legal matters are addressed, and the numbers add up... sign him again. Not just because our defense needs help... but because its what would happen to anybody else with any other job.

There are many non-legal reasons to let him walk: too much money; erratic behavior; cam and luke contracts; depth with ealy in year two and alexander back. Add all that up plus the actual incident, i'd think we let him walk.

If found innocent here is the reason you sign him.

Hardy = Proven top 10 pass rusher and defensive player in the league.

Alexander = Proven weed smoker who has yet to prove anything on the field.

Ealy = Rookie who hasn't proven or shown what he will develop into yet.

Addison = Pass rush specialist who can't play a full game at DE.

Horton = Proven nothing un drafted player. It's asking a lot to ask him to replace Hardy.

CJ = Making way to much money and not as talented or versatile as Hardy.

Right now Hardy is the most talented versatile Dline player we have. He is also one of the emotional leader and part of the tough intimidating pieces we have on the team.
