Is Shia LaBeouf a "great" actor?

I just had an argument with one of my friends on Twitter. I jokingly said I like Shia after I saw the Jimmy Kimmel interview of his recent arrest.

 

 

My friend then comes to his defense saying he's "been" one of the best actors for a while. Now admittedly I haven't seen any of his recent work considering it's been indie stuff up until "Fury" so I suppose I can't properly gauge his progress. But seriously am I missing something because I don't really see anything that separates him from your everyday mediocre actor.

He was pretty good in "Lawless," but I know the Bondurant family the movie was made about, therefore my opinion may not be very objective.

 

But "great?" I hardly think so....

He's not good just eccentric. Will probably end up landing a few peculiar roles in indie films to inflate his status.

I like Shia you guys can suck it. I think he is a good actor. Great? Not yet. Need larger body of work before I can call someone great. But I have no problem calling him a good actor

I enjoy most of his movies. All the way back to Holes! He doesn't have a huge body of work, but he makes a lot of the movies he's in at least decent when they would suck otherwise. He's only 28 and I think he'll continue to get better roles going forward if he keeps his personal life together.
