DG question.

WOW!!

I have 0 facts to back it up, but it's a pretty good conspiracy theory. Circumstantial evidence is pretty strong tho.

I think Gettleman hedged his bets.

Goes on the cheap and if the team rocks he pays a big contract because he can possibly afford it now.

Team struggles now he has a bit more leverage to go down some in money.

On top of that by getting rid of all the wrs he can bring in his guy and funnel many passes his way to make him look smart.

I think the lean is more towards being cheap than totally undermining Cam.

Last year and this year are both gravy years. I guarantee you DG told JR this would be probably at best a 3-4 year project until we could get Hurneys ridiculous cap situation under control.

Last year happened and that's great..he tried to recreate it this year and probably could have if Gross and Wharton hadn't retired..and Hardy/Alexander hadn't been idiots. But attrition happens and now we suck.

All that to say...he's not going to bring expensive contracts ala Marty Hurney as a stop gap. He wants long term, talented contributors. It's going to take time and it may take some heads to roll (Shula and Dorsey) but DG is going to get this thing going. He's been around good football for too long not to right the ship. Unless for some reason JR is some kind of a jerry jones type owner who meddles too much. However, I think that's probably not the case given his age and his health. How much could he possibly meddle??

Well it's either that or he's not very good at his job. I'd much rather like to believe our GM doesn't trust our QB than him being incompetent .

Holy moly.

DG is doing the job he was hired to do, and doing it pretty well.  Last season was an anomaly, an outlier, a farce.  We were not a 12 win team...very few NFL teams are.

Clearing space, and making sure that Cam is the long term solution (I think that he is, but probably not at the cost of what he is asking).

This season was never about winning the Super Bowl, it was about getting into position to be a consistent contender over the next few years....forget about 14.

You don't throw away seasons to be competitive down the road that is insane, again we have our franchise qb quit dickin around and get the job done he can execute his plan while keeping this team competitive......this hurney bs is a lame excuse.

I would normally type out exactly where you are wrong on every one of your points, but then I look at your screen name, your avatar, and your sig, and know that there is no reason to even attempt to do so.

I'm glad you didn't waste my time and others by furthermore making yourself look like a fool

DG did the same thing this offseason as the first.  He got rid of some bad contracts and filled the holes with cheap, short term players.

If they were trying to throw the season away they wouldn't have never tagged Hardy in the first place.

Luckily for us last year everyone stayed healthy, Hardy stayed on the field, and the cheap fill in players outplayed their salaries.  Not so much this year.

Why do people keep forgetting what the cap and draft effect on OT. The draft pool was 5 deep, after that there was a huge fall off. Dave said that and it was backed up by ozzie newsome. Free agency, panthers choose to tag hardy and no one saw the huge mess coming. There was only b albert, then the next best was a beagal backup who got 15 guar 30 mill deal form the cap rich bucs. Even michael ohr got a joke of a deal at 4yr 20 mill.

I petty sure there was a huge effort to address the OT, but the timing wasn't right. Great thing is the coming draft should be rich in all type of OTs.

The money they'd command for the performance they would give wouldn't be worth it at all.

Why? It would be a deal till the end of the year with zero guarantees. Sorry, that excuse isn't cutting it anymore. Not saying I would sign them or not, but that's a really poor excuse not to.
