The trial had been previously set for Nov. 17, leaving the possibility that Hardy could have been activated off the commissioner's exempt list before the end of the season if he was found not guilty.

The continuance means Hardy's case will not be resolved before the end of this season, and he'll remain out while the legal issue is pending.

Last week, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said there will be no change on Hardy's status with the Panthers or the league until the legal case is resolved.

"The agreement with the union regarding Greg Hardy's status states that he agreed to be placed on the commissioner-exempt list with full pay until the criminal charges pending against him are adjudicated, and that no discipline will be imposed against him by the team or league until the charges are adjudicated," Aiello wrote in an e-mail.

Peterson just plead guilty.  He's expected to be reinstated and play again.  Ray Rice is currently in appeal, he could win, be reinstated and play again.

Meanwhile, Hardy, the only player charged with a misdemeanor is out the entire season.

That makes sense.

Yeah. If Peterson plays with a misdemeanor charge, why can't Hardy. It's not like the next trial is going to bump it up to a felony.

As far as I know.

what this means is, Hardy hasn't served a suspension yet.  After his trial, if he is found guilty then the league will suspend/fine him.

I would think that if he is found innocent he would have some sort of right to be reimbursed for damages and the loss of potential earnings.  I know he is getting his money this year but I don't think its very hard to argue that him not playing during the prime of his career could have hurt his future earnings.

Also, Its obviously way too early to discuss HOF possibilities but his stats are not unlike Peppers' or Strahan's were and I think we can agree that missing an entire season in your prime certainly hurts those chances.
