Players from the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons both claimed a pair of second-half fights energized them Sunday in the Falcons' 19-17 win at Bank of America Stadium.

 

The brawls also took a chunk from the paychecks of several players.

 

An NFL spokesman said Friday a total of five players were fined $8,268 apiece for their roles in the fights, which came on successive plays late in the third quarter.

 

Defensive backs Roman Harper and Josh Norman were fined for the Panthers, while Falcons receivers Roddy White, Harry Douglas and Devin Hester were docked, as well.

 

Things started when Harper was penalized for unnecessary roughness for shoving White's helmet into the turf after White's 11-yard catch. White got up and pushed Harper in the head.

 

On the following play, Norman and Douglas went to the ground with each grabbing the other's facemask. Hester dived headfirst at Norman, drawing an unnecessary roughness flag.

It was determined before the season. There is a list somewhere and I am guessing the NFL and NFLPA negotiated to get fine amounts.

Honestly, throughout all my travels to NFL cities and attending games there is no less intelligent, sports IQ-less, bunch of idiot fans. Nowhere can one experience the cultural cross-contamination of a fanbase comprised of dopey white rednecks and wannabe black thugs. Put them all in one place and you have one of the strangest, albeit just plain stupid, football crowds.

If it takes a little scuffle to get a team motivated and play with energy something is bad wrong. It is up to the coaching staff to have the players primed and ready to go full bore. This could speak volunes of  why both the Panthers and Falcons are teams with a poor losing records.
