Josh Norman: Munnerlyn Never Helped Me

When Captain was starting he was absolutely the worst starting CB this team ever had.  He was a solid Nickel because he had less field to work with, but any time he had to cover for more than 2 seconds he was getting burnt.  I wasn't terribly sad to see him go either.  I'm glad he didn't help Norman, he probably would have had a negative impact.

He wasn't anywhere near the worst starting CB this team ever had. He was a good but undersized nickel who thought he is/was a #1 corner...that's really what it is.

You don't luck into 5 pick sixes the dood can play and has skills....just lacks height.

I love how the author tries to use INTs as a reason why Munnerlyn is better. Hey! Did you ever stop to think QBs threw to Captain a lot because he sucked? Most of his INTs were basically handed to him also.

The huddle worshiped Munnerlyn because of those INTs...

I'm surprised so many are willing to take Norman's version as the correct one. Josh has always had a reputation of being kind of a jerk and not an easy guy to like. Maybe Captain was the same way too; I suspect neither one of them are the kind of guys you would want to spend a lot of time around.

Captain was damn good nickel CB. Not his fault he has no talent and asked him to play on the outside. Dude could have flawless coverage.....height difference with those matchups was just something he couldn't control

Also, people need to bump the breaks on acting like Norman has surpassed Captain. He hasn't yet. Nickel Captain to date is still better and more proven than Norman

    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
    • Sounds like Veesaar is entering the draft. He could always test the waters and pull out and return but without him our big men look like a serious liability. Better do something in the portal. If they don't do something about this portal madness my days as a college sports fan are probably numbered. This bullshit of having a nearly entirely new team every season is gonna get old fast.
