As horrifying as it is to think about, I think we're actually very well positioned

If we were just about any other team, the OP would be right.

But I can't help but think back to Atlanta, when the offense seemed to be ready to make a statement, and Ron took the wind out of their sails. I just don't know if they will regain any kind of swagger after that textbook example of how to demotivate a team in 3 easy steps.

Add in the team's stellar record coming off bye weeks, and it's very hard for most fans to generate much optimism.

Really whoever does not win this Div should be fired. Its like a race to see which coach is avg.

Just because any one of these four coaches stubble and stagger into a division championship should not mean they retain their jobs. Any coach with only 5 wins should be worried.

No.

Why give a poo about winning a few games and making the playoffs out of a terrible division full of horrible teams?

People want to say you're not a real fan if you want your team to lose but that's a load of horse poo. We need a high draft pick to actually fix problems.

Next couple years > derping in backwards into the playoffs with a 7-9 record and getting dickfuged in the playoffs.

I am not one of those stupid, lose for a draft pick guys.  I don't care if we only win 2 more games and make the playoffs, I just want us playing well those 2 games. However, we have consistently played badly either offensively, defensively or both.  We have yet to play a complete game and we are 12 weeks into the season.

If we manage to pull it together then we are well positioned.  If we are moving forward only playing just good enough to beat the other dumpster fires in our division they we are well positioned for an ass whuppin of biblical proportions.   I mean we have more than 5 losses by more than 2 touchdowns.   The 2010 had 8.   I can at least take comfort that it was possible to win the Atlanta game if we didn't get date raped by our coaches.   People can blame Shula all they want but the mistakes on our team are more than scheme.   Drops, missed blocks, missed reads, missed tackles, missed assignments,  playing Godfrey at CB, voluntarily suspending Hardy, etc.   I can't name anyone except probably Collin Jones,  Kshort and Norwell who has exceeded expectations, everyone else from Cam, Luke, TD, CJ , Stew, Williams, Star, etc.. has either F'up some really big plays or not show the same level of play on a consistent basis.

i would take a playoff bid over anything. thats why you play an entire season, to get in the playoffs. injuries could make other playoff teams look as bad or worse than the panthers current roster, or we might step it up...you never know what will happen until the playoffs start.

personally, i hope and pray we pick 32nd in the 1st round, and how anyone can throw in the towel on the season when we are currently half game behind from getting a home playoff game is beyond me.

    • overall agree on the draft grade as a whole on on each pick, but every time I read (and I have read it more than once) that we "gave up two firsts" for Bryce, I am confused. We gave up the 2024 first, but we swapped 2023 firsts, so we didn't give up anything there. We did give up our former first rounder in DJ, but I don't think thats what you mean as one of the "firsts" we gave up.
    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
