Running Backs by the Numbers

look at Eddie Lacy last years OROY drafted in the second round pick 61.Le'Veon Bell drafted in the second round pick 48 of the 2013 NFL draft.Jermey Hill drafted in round two pick 55 of the 2014 NFL draft, already has 877yards rushing this season. and what do all three of these players have in common;first round talent for the cost of a second round pick.

so finding a featured back in the 4th or 5th round is alot more difficult than one would imagine.but finding first round talent in the second has been the most successful trend as of late in finding quality featured backs in the draft.

Lots of teams have guys they could run as featured RBs....and they would accumulate better stats and more recognition in the process.

Just bc they opt not to run a featured RB doesn't mean there isn't talent.

who is looking for a featured RB anyway? That is old school. Don't want one. Don't need one. Once they reach the end of their rookie deal.....who would want to pay one?

Give me a good overall team....and I'll be be happy with a CJ Anderson, Jonas Gray or even

a Fozzy Whitaker. Bc if your O is good.....anyone can run

And find a new, cheap, fresh option every other year, like the pats

thats the main reason the Pats can't win the Superbowl again.

Antwoain Smith drafted (Buffalo Bills)round 1 pick 23 of the 1997 draft was the Patriots featured back during their 01 and 03 Superbowl victories.

Corey Dillion round 2 pick 43 of the 1997 draft (Cincinnati Bengals) was New Englands feature back during their last Superbowl victory in 2004.

Im not too sure about that man.. im sure it had a facter with a better run game bit that was in an era where spending high picks and money on backs was very common and a standar practice.

What im really trying to get at is they consistently cycle players in and out, getting great production while not getting their cap all tied up.

And theyve been in the playoffs nearly every since I can remember

Certainly better than being man handled by the fans, paying big money to overhyped players like the panthers have over the years.

Stew is a Panther for life whether he/we like it or not.

Not necessarily.

June 1st cut for Stewart frees up $2m in cap space next year.

Also of the 4 running backs listed Tolbert presents the most cap savings next year.

Fozzy is an ERFA next year,if I'm not mistaken, so he would be really economical to keep.

If I had to guess I would say Stew and Fozzy are here next year along with two new players.

Speaking of Denver they ran their 6th round pick RB to 2 Super Bowl wins.

3 or 4 great years is literally all you should expect from a RB. An Emmitt Smith is an aberration.

Man, Terrell Davis was a beast.  I was a big fan of his, even have a jersey of his.  The only non-Panther jersey I have.

keeping stew makes tolbert redundant, unfortunately… which is a damn shame. still i could live with both of them on the roster as long as dwill is gone and fozzbert is making peanuts

How does keeping Stewy make Tolbert redundant? Tolbert does more lead blocking than actual running anymore. Whereas Stewy does no lead blocking. Tolbert is our only FB. Unless we bring in a FB that can replace him, Tolbert is probably going to be here again next year.

Also, Tolbert can fill in at RB if needed. And actually has great hands out of the backfield. Throw in that he is relatively cheap, and I can see him hanging around for at least the foreseeable future.

Then again, we don't use a FB all that often. But...IMO, Tolbert is a pretty valuable piece of the puzzle.

Stewy, Tolbert, and Fozzy would work for me for at least one more year.

we can find other lead blockers who are just as good at a fraction of the price. He doesnt add much to the running game anymore. He isnt even that good at lead blocking. Hes just a big fat running back imo
