Realistically, what is the future of Shula?

Obviously several changes need to take place this offseason regarding the offense, and of course, changes will be made from the personnel side as always. From reading this forum, it is clear that amongst us fans, Shula is no longer wanted here by most and a change at the OC position would be welcoming and a fresh start. The question is, how is Shula viewed within the organization and not just the fans? One thing I kept thinking about as this season appeared to be going down the drain was "at least we'll have a new OC (likely HC also) at the helm next season!" Well hell if we didn't (and to my joy) get on a hot streak to end the season and win a playoff game. Winning is always a good thing, I don't give a damn if we're 2-12 at the time. But, I want Shula gone and I don't believe he should be given credit one bit for this streak at the end of the season based off past performance... Plus our offense didn't improve substantially. The defensive side of the ball is mostly to credit..

Will the Panthers have the balls to let Shula go even after a late season rally by our team? I have the feeling most NFL organizations would. Unfortunately, I feel we may be content with him given our finish to the season... Thoughts?

I've been trying to list all the postives about shula and pick out the best.

I believe the shula future......... well Im trying to say he pulled a fast or is it a slow one on the panthers. He made sure to become butt buds with cam, that my huddlers is a power move.

Just say for s and giggles, cam is super shula supporter. Ok....... and cam wants his bff shula here or he'll think about pulling a peppers.........

Would you take cam if it means keepin shula for the same amount of time, hmmm?

Everyone agrees that Cam struggled because he didn't have enough tools around him. Before the season started almost everyone was saying that we might have the worse O line and receivers in football.

If everyone agrees to that, then why does Cam get a pass but the Offensive coaching personnel from Shula on down the line are crucified with the exception of Proehl.  If our offensive personnel was so awful and it was a major reason Cam struggled, then it was a major reason the offense struggled as well.  Look at how much better we were in December when we had the personnel on offense and defense to operate Shula's scheme.

No one is going to mistake Shula for a creative inventive offensive genius, but when he has the players to run his system he appears more than adequate. Both he and to a lesser extent, McDermott, have taken a ton of heat when the reality is that our talent level took all season to develop and only showed potential in the last quarter of the season.  We should be pretty solid going forward unless Gettleman does a fruit basket turnover yet again this year.

This playoff run saved his job. The sooner you accept it the sooner you'll get over it. Trust me I don't like it but that's what happens when the lights turn on in December.

This is absolutely the case.  I'd say there's a less than 10% chance Shula is canned.  I doubt Gettleman wants to jump over Rivera to fire his coaches and it's very doubtful Rivera will fire him either.  The only member of the coaching staff gone IMO is Rodgers.

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
