Letter from Panthers' owner woos Oklahoma boy to NFL team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers are out of the running for the Super Bowl, but they're No. 1 in the heart of an Oklahoma boy.

Media outlets report 12-year-old Cade Pope wrote all 32 NFL teams asking them why he should root for their team. He had once been a St. Louis Rams fan because of quarterback Sam Bradford, who played college ball at the University of Oklahoma. But his affection was up for grabs.

Out of the 32 letters, Cade got one response. Carolina Panthers founder and owner Jerry Richardson sent a handwritten note as well as a replica Panthers helmet signed by All-Pro linebacker Luke Kuechly (KEE--klee).

Richardson told Cade the team would make him proud and that he would love Kuechly, Cam Newton, Thomas Davis and Greg Olsen.

I read this elsewhere (http://abc11.com/sports/boy-writes-handwritten-letter-to-all-32-nfl-teams-but-only-one-team-responds/471797/), the kid says:

"If this is the only team that responds to me, I'm a Carolina Panthers fan," Cade told KWTV.

I say F that kid, like teams need to be bidding on his fandom.  Sounds like he's "evaluating our offer" and if no one else comes along he'll settle for the Panthers.

to be fair to the kid... no one has matched the Panthers' offer thus far...

Sounds like the kid may have hired a hard core agent to help him decide. :)

    • The good thing about replacing a bad player is you really have nothing to lose. If their replacement is bad so what, you didn't get much worse and probably saved money.
    • I came over from the old Panthers Insider site. When Fox Sports bought that platform it slowly just started dying plus the guy who ran that site was dealing with some pretty significant health issues so the whole thing just slowly fell apart. Quite a few of us migrated over here. Not sure how many are still around.  I miss that place. It struck a nice balance of having enough active posters to keep productive conversation flowing but didn't have so much traffic that you end up with a lot of trolling BS. This place is getting there though since we shutdown new registrations but at some point we're going to have to open it back up or we'll watch this place slowly die off too as posters fall off for one reason or another. We just have to figure out a way to filter out the spam bots. It was a never ending battle to ban the spam bots to keep then from overrunning the site. You'd think they'd be a little more strategic. I mean, if you fill a site with nothing but spam people are just going to stop coming so it's not a sustainable model. But nope, every one of them makes dozens of duplicate threads filling up pages upon pages as soon as their account goes live.
    • lol...I don't remember that.  Although recalling what I had for breakfast yesterday is sometimes a challenge.  Hope it was a positive thing.
