So what is the expectation next year, NFCC game?

Hey man im right there with you, and in that respect we were incredibly unlucky.

Im comming at this from the perspective that the division was historically bad

It's all good....we caught some breaks along the way for sure. The Bengal's missing a field goal to keep it a tie comes to mind. If he made that kick, our season would have ended much differently. Our division helped as well but I think we were head and shoulders above those teams by the end of the year. I know the old "you are what your record says you are" mantra but I can't help but feel like we were playing like a team better than our record would indicate.

Merely 1 week ago today, this is how Carolina Huddlers felt about the team:

"Honestly, our offense would probably be better off with Cam just calling his own plays at the LOS. Shula is worse than worthless. He's detrimental."

"3rd and 2? So a 40 yd pass, Shula?"

"and the panthers haven't shown up yet...the rivera staple"

"How the hell do you leave the defensive end unblocked. Such horrid play design."

"One of the worst coaching mistakes this year, letting Bersin return punts. I would be happy with Fozzy bak there."

"we have to have the worst OC in the history of OC"

"Only our offense is going to lose us this game"

"FUMBLE DAMNIT"

"this game is over"

"lol Shula calls read option on 2nd and 10 and results in fumble. Thanks Shula! We get to see more of that in the 2015 regular season since we made the playoffs. Hope you guys are excited."

This thread, 1 week later, and look at everyone who says this team is going to be over .500 and going to the playoffs. With the same coaching staff, the vast majority of the same players. My question is, exactly what do you believe is going to happen that will suddenly transform the Carolina Panthers into anything more than what they've consistently demonstrated over the past 20 years which is mediocrity with the occasional winning season.

The season just ended so it's way to early to predict how next year may end up but in spite of several obstacles, we finished strong and the future is bright.

I feel you. I was thinking the same thing. Really.

But, to answer your question: Experience and the assumption of a talent upgrade at key positions.

We were close this year, really. If we can get a decent LT, another big play WR, and another talented DB, at the minimum, that should make a world of difference. Add in even more players that may be starters or add quality depth, and we should be on our way.

Beat the Seahawks and Packers. Rivera is 0-6 against them.

To be fair, there has been a noticeable talent differential in each of those contests.

We could have won any of those games, save this past season in Lambeau, but there have always been some pretty sizable talent gaps at key positions.  But, to your insinuation, hopefully another season under Rivera's belt will help him to noticeably close the coaching gap with Carroll, McCarthy and other top coaches in the league (and best them).

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
